Hi, I was recently given this watch, which belonged to my late uncle. I have not been able to find any other images of an Omega with this type of blue numbers. Does anyone know the model or any of the history of this style of Omega?

Sorry if this is a really broad question.

    Thanks. IMG_5373.JPG IMG_5374.JPG IMG_5376.JPG

What he's saying is that the watch is not entirely genuine.

Typical "uncle" watch. But I would still like to see the inside.

Those uncles... ::rant:Yes, a look at the insides would be helpful. Unfortunately it doesn't look good so far. I have (but my knowledge is rather limited) never seen an Omega caseback like that. Do you have any info on the watch: approx. buying year etc.?

It's probably a prototype, so very rare. :whistling:

Why do the uncles always end up with the prototypes?

All I know is the engraving on the back says 1954. I haven't opened it up. Is that something I can easily and safely do? Even if it's a fake, it's an old fake and, to me, that is almost as interesting a the real thing. I'm not a collector, so my uncle having a fake is sorta funny. I don't want to break it. It seems to work.

    Thanks, all.

Don't take it too hard. If you search this site, you will see untold number of fake watches that are from the uncle. Personally, I don't think your watch is a fake per say. Probably an Omega movement inside. Possibly re-cased. Possibly an Omega case. I have never seen one like this but wouldn't be the first time. Best way to find out would be to take it to a watchmaker. That type of watch case back requires a special tool that not many people have. I personally use large socket that have been ground to work. A rubber ball would be best so not to scratch the soft gold.
I would love for you to get the back off, take a pic of the inside case back and movement then rub it in our noses if it is indeed an Omega.
The rubber ball looks like this

    I think it's a real Omega from the 50's, probably with a bumper caliber inside - maybe a 351.

Does it feel like a coin is bouncing around inside the watch if you lightly shake it or twist it repeatedly? If so, it's a bumper. If not, it's an early 500 series full rotor.

The reason you (meaning the OP) can't find any similar dials with that color numbers is because that's a repainted and relumed one, and like most it isn't an accurate reproduction.

    My stab would be
    US casing,
    movement 351 movement
Just a really bad repaint dial
    Something like this
