My father gave me this Constellation and I have been trying to learn as much as possible about it. I would very much appreciate your opinions about it.

Cal 561
Ref 168.005
Serial nr 20991282 (1963 as I understand it)

At first glance (and important): the dial seems to be OK. AFAI can see . Better pics helpful 馃槈
Ref. the crown I am unsure.

I risk a "congrats" ......

PS: maybe the glass (still) has the original OMEGA-logo in the center....

Crown is a later replacement (not unexpected). Otherwise it looks to be in lovely condition. Get it serviced and it will be ready for another 50 years.

A nice gift indeed @Jopi

I would suggest, from the 20,99xx serial, possibly pushing into 1964 - but that's neither there nor there (unless '63 is a birth year for you)
Clearer pics would help but the dial looks correct.
The crown is a replacement. (it's Omega but not one seen on a dogleg)
The hands may have been replaced:
the second hand is too long
the minute and hour hands may have tritium (as they should) but possibly look like black inserts from the pics
From the condition of the case back, it looks like someone may have been wearing it on a nato? 馃榾whipped馃榾

If you intend wearing it (and why wouldn't you?) it would be worthwhile getting the movt serviced if it hasn't had one recently.

Congrats - wear it in good health

Hello,

I reckon the dial is not repainted.
The condition isn鈥檛 very good : soft case, wear on the dial
The crown should be a decagonal crown to be original.
The hands may not be original. At least the second hand is too long.

Pie pans are well known among collectors to be very nice watches with nice movements. You should get it serviced and wear it 馃憤

Thank you all very much for offering your opinions! It麓s hard to get decent pics. Some new attempts below.

I have used it a bit and it works very well. But I guess a service is a good idea.

I am sure the condition isn麓t the best, it has porbably been used a lot before it ended up with me.

Thanks again for your comments, I value them greatly.

I guessed the crown was not original by the way, it seems to small. Woud you suggest that I try to find a more autentic looking to replace it with or should I let it be?

unfortunately, the correct decagonal crown is no longer available and the correct replacement crown is like the one shown below.
You might want to leave the current one on your watch but the crown on a Constellation has a gasket and is part of the waterproofing system and your existing one might not have a gasket.

and rare cb case piepan.馃槈馃槜

I鈥檓 guessing that must be a Speedy reference and - channeling the Squirrel - it has NO PLACE in a Constellation thread! :whipped:

If you just change the crown to an original you will have a even greater watch. It鈥檚 a watch to hold on to and enjoy.
