Dear ΩF members, As a newcomer to Omega Forum (absolutely fascinating website by the way), I would like to share a bit of myself with all of the ΩF members. More precisely, I would like to share with you how I came to watches. Ten years ago, I have inherited the most important watch ever from my beloved and regretted grand-father. This watch was offered to him in the 60’s for his personal implication in the development of the city my grand-parents used to live in. Among countless other personal qualities, my grandpa was a WWII hero as an active member of the French resistance during German occupation. When WWII ended, he has integrated the French Airforce as both an engineer in aeronautic and a fighter pilot. He has grown me and was (and still is) an example of rigor and righteousness for me. My hero. The watch is a solid gold Jaeger-Lecoultre Automatic Geomatic. As you can imagine, this watch is absolutely priceless to my eyes. Here are some pics. Thank you for reading my little story. Cheers. Dr. R.
Beautiful ... Wear it in good health and keep that movement serviced. Your grandfather led one hell of a life!
Welcome and thank you for sharing your story... You've clearly been reading the forum and know people here agree the bonds are the most important part. The watch is also beautiful, it must be nice to wear it thinking of your grand father.
Lots of information on the Geomatic here: http://www.watchprosite.com/?page=wf&forumid=2&show=&qf=ft&ft=geomatic That is an extremely nice example. Fantastic heirloom piece. gatorcpa
What a great watch! I'm at least temporarily green with envy. The watches that I inherited were much less magnificent. You have a real treasure, but you should wear it. Nothing good happens to a watch that's left sitting in the safe for years.
Wear your watch with pride. An amazing watch that should be worn. By wearing it you are adding to its history, whoever is lucky enough to inherit it will have more of a history to add to it, much better than it sitting in a draw for however many decades.
Another good example of an "inherited watch" post. You have a very nice memento but don't be afraid to wear it in the right circumstances, i.e. not while gardening, kick-boxing or learning Parkour.
Your grandfather must be very proud of your appreciation towards his memory. Very nice watch. Wear it without fear and enjoy it.
Lovely watch. Wear it and add to it's already rich history. And if you do scratch it, when you pass it down you can tell the story of how it happened....
