Info on a orfina Porsche design 7177?

So I was crossing a busy street and in the grass on the center median I see a watch. When I picked it up I had a little weight to it and thought maybe it felt like a quality watch and then I seen the Porsche design on it so I did a Google search and when I noticed the price, I figured it had to be a replica and someone bought me a nolex when they was in China once so I know that they have some really good replicas ..but from all the reference pics from a website I seen compared to the one I found, I am not seeing anything that is different to my eyes. I don't know much about watches though. Anyways I have a few questions about it. First off..Is it real authentic piece?...secondly ..is there a serial number and a database that I could search to see if it has been reported stolen or missing? If it is original and not reported stolen, do you happen to know where to get a crown for it? Does anyone suggest I should do anything about trying to polish out the scratches on the back piece or the glass? What would be the best way to go about selling it? How much do you think I could get out of it in the condition it is in? And would anyone here want to make an offer? Any other additional information would be appreciated .

You do not have the privileges here for a sales post. Only established members can do this.

In terns of the watch. Whether reported missing or not and whether a fake or not, you should be handing it in to the correct authorities and not looking to profit from someone else's misfortune. My opinion only

No data base. Should be from the early 80's. Caliber 5100. Markings correct. Not issued to a specific military unit. Glass , glass seal needed. Only a Watchmaker should replace that. Crystal has an inner anti glare coating. Crowns with PD/Orfina logo available. Stem needed as well. Inner distance ring under the spring appears to be missing. Black case ? Black bracelet? We have all parts for these. Value? This here is not a vetting service. Ask your local Pawn broker, how much he wants to give you. eBay next. Service for these movements quite expensive. And that's it in a Nutshell.

Hand it into police…if you get it back after usual amount of time…

Not a bad watch…pay for a service and a new crown and you have a nice watch…

Try selling it in the condition it’s in your lucky to get $200

Service it your getting closer to what you saw on google when you looked it up

I should have read the forum rules first. And I hope you are not assuming that i am trying to profit off someone's misfortune when I asked if there is a serial number or database I can check to see if it has been reported stolen or lost. If I am not able to get it back in the hands of its rightful owner then it is safe to assume I will then try to profit off someone's misfortune

I think I might have the details of the owner. Looks like one, where we replaced the original hands late last year. Will find out. Did you find it in Sydney?

Just by looking at it you think you know the owner? It was not found in Sydney or Australia

Yes, I can. I know exactly, what was serviced and replaced in our repairs...

I am assuming exactly what you said in your email in that you will make attempts to find the owner yourself but you do not mention handing it in to the police or authorities which I believe you are duty bound to do (morally anyway at least!)

Years ago, I was looking for one of these in rough condition like this one. There used to be many, many parts available on eBay and I thought I'd make a little project out of it. You could probably put one together sans movement with what was availably years ago. I never decided if I wanted the 12hr or standard bezel, though. I did buy an Orfina Military dial. That's as far as I got.

I was reading that the FBI has a database of all property reported stolen or missing for every state and it is free to search. Can anyone tell me what the serial number is or how to find out?

Looks legit to me and worth several times more than said above as is. All you'd need to do to see if the member above serviced it is give him the serial number. That should start with 040 but you have it hidden by the rotor. It doesn't appear to be engraved into the upper automatic device bridge seen through the rotor slot, so that lends legitimacy Would be informative to see the outer case back.

I don't believe I've seen so many questions asked in one small post.

The OP hasn’t returned in a while and I won’t hold my breath that they will… but yeah… I will do my best not to make assumptions

$20 says the outer case back is scratched like a tree in a bear park from old mate opening with a pair of scissors….

Apparently the OP is long gone.... but we're still here. If you (OP) spin the rotor half way around there should be a small, circular recessed area with a sticker in it having the serial number (if it has a correct movement). Assuming you've exhausted all attempts to locate the hapless owner🙄, the parts you need are readily available (crown, winding stem, movement spacer ring, crystal and gasket, even a correct new case back if needed) to make this proper. All are fairly affordably priced save for the case back. The hands look great and I don't see any issues with the dial. Get those parts and a service and you'll have a fine wearable and collectible watch.

Ive been meaning to thank you. I have been using the number on the caseback to do database searches to find the owner. I will now try that number. If I cant find the owner i will try and locate the crown, because i figure even if I do not sell it I will want it to work. Do you know where I might find one?
