Bonkers. Must admit I hadn't noticed but will certainly have a look now!

I guess the next contract will be with some other watch manufacturer, most likely Omega as it's unlikely that they will ever sign with Rolex again after this debacle.
A great example of poking yourself in the eye.

Channeling prior US President Obama.....Never underestimate Rolex's ability to f**k things up.

It must be somewhat depressing to be a senior leader, manager or board member at Rolex and have to work in such a petty, woke environment where common sense doesn't often exist. Can't be a happy place.

How is this watch sponsership dispute related to being woke oe unwoke?

From the article:

"Stuff understands that is because Tudor were highly unimpressed that one of the refs from the 2019 World Cup, who is now retired, went on to sell his watch after that tournament in Japan."

So last time referees got to keep their ‘official timepieces’ but were (unofficially) not allowed to on sell them afterwards? They should have collected them all up last time and kept them ready to hand back to this year’s referees 😵‍💫

But then they'd be wearing the wrong color pelagos and that won't do!

Couldn’t agree more
Derisive terms like woke and flog are used so often by those who can’t articulate a sensical position or to those who struggle to understand one, sometimes both… those in the latter category might refer to themselves as woke floggers, but I’ll refrain

Finally read the article referenced here. What’s a mystery to me is why referees need to have watches in the first place?

In American football, basketball, hockey and now even baseball (pitch clocks), official time is kept by the stadium or arena clocks. The referees or umpires give the official timekeepers signals regarding when to start and stop the clock.

Soccer and rugby seem to be the only sports where no one except one person on the field knows how much time is left in a game. Seems pretty silly to me. Besides, only the timekeeping referee in these sports needs a watch. Seems like someone got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and now the Referees’ Union is defending them. I don’t blame Tudor one bit.

Stop being so cheap and install clocks in the stadiums! Tudor can put their name next to it and be done.

Sent this to a rugby mad mate who was at the England Argentina game in France. He said “what’s Tudor? Never heard of them”. Bet the Rolex/Tudor marketing team would love that feedback. We watch nerds really do live in our own little world.

To be fair there are usually clocks in most stadiums, it's more that in football (soccer) the referee decides how much extra to add beyond the normal time for the various stoppages that have occurred during the half.

There is no reason why an official timekeeper can’t perform this function based on signals from the on-field referee. That way, everyone in the stadium will know exactly how much injury time accumulates each half.

Yes, but it's much more fun to direct your ire at the "wanker in the black" than some hidden dude in a backroom somewhere...😁
