Hi all, I've finally pulled the trigger on a waffle-dialled Seamaster and it's waiting at home for when I get back from a business trip. However, apparently it's rather small.... my wife measured it and the case is only 30mm across and the lug size is 17mm. The seller said it dates to the late 40s and I know watches were smaller then. So... is this typical of the size of early Seamasters (most 50s ones seem to be 34mm)? Here are some pics (seller's pics only). Crown doesn't appear to be original: The dial appears to be a great waffle.. but I'll only know tomorrow if it's big enough to even read on my own wrist!!
Looks like one of those midsize Seamasters to me. Dial looks nice, and if I remember correctly it should have a Cal. 47X in it.
Calibre 470 or 471 ("formerly 25 RA SC") and case ref either CK 2828 or CK 2916. The vintage DB calls the latter out specifically at 30mm. Interesting... the lugs look like they add some weight to the dial.. will be interesting to see how it looks. I'll take the case back off when I get home, and get some movement shots, and also post some wrist shots!
I'm pleasantly surprised having tried this one on. I have about 7 1/4 inch wrists and it actually looks quite fine: The watchmaker opened the back and it is indeed a 2828, 32mm case, with a pretty good looking 471, serial 16'59x'xxx.
