    Hello!

Just wanted to share my recent purchase of a Zodiac Seawolf 722-916 with you guys. It's my first Seawolf, and it's one that I've been pretty interested in for a while. Although, I must say that the purchase of this specific one was relatively impulsive. I saw It pop up as a Buy It Now on eBay for a pretty good price, so I snatched it without doing most of my thorough research and question asking. So far I think I'm pretty happy with the pick up.

I was interested in a late-60's model - which I believe this is from sometime in the 60's from my knowledge of them - but hopefully someone here might be able to narrow down the date range a little. It's a hacking, non-quick-date-set model, with the movement serial of 146440. The lume has turned an interesting green color, and the overall condition seems decent, especially compared to what is typically seen at this price, if they are seen at this price at all. I'm going to say that it must be pretty polished, but I'm not very experienced with the nuances of this case. It certainly looks more polished on the close up pictures than it does in person. Let me know what you think of it.

    Cheers

    'Grats on the pick-up!

I have a white one with no-date, in fact, I have two other no-dates in black. I think yours looks nice!

I was afraid to buy a 'date' version because of the offset cannon pinion in those which is supposedly highly prone to wear, and hard to find. I've never heard of anyone on our Forum mention an issue with these, although W&W thinks it's significant: http://wornandwound.com/review/affordable-vintage-zodiac-sea-wolf/

I can't help you on the date range, but looks to be similar age as mine, which I believe is probably early-mid 60's.

Here's some old ads you may have already seen in some other threads, but re-posted for enjoyment here:

    And here's my 'whitey':

That's a nice "Whitey" bears a striking resemblance to mine.

I was also put off by the offset cannon pinion issue but I was informed by a watchmaker who was a lot more knowledgeable than me that it was greatly exaggerated. Might even have been a member on here. Anyway, nice pick up by the OP.
Do you still have that beautiful, well patinated one?

Great example, congrats! Vintage Zodiac's are something different.. always admired them. I had my eyes on one (in full set!) ages ago, still regret I didn't pull the trigger.

You certainly did well for yourself. The Zodiac Seawolf is a uniquely striking watch which sort of blazed its own trail with regards to styling.

An early Seawolf lives here. It's a solid hands, no-date, no-hack variant. I'd like to add a nice white dial Seawolf to the watch menagerie in future.

Is that the same one you featured in the delightful post a few years ago?

This first generation one is owned by my father in law. He bought it from a friend of his whom collected Zodiacs for YEARS. It's in pretty amazing shape considering its age. Not a bad pickup for $500.

My three versions, one with sliding clasp bracelet, one dial has mellowed to a nice chocolate shade.

Here's a better pic of my guy in adequate lighting.

P.S. almost don't really want to admit this, because some people might misunderstand the motivation - but I originally became interested in this reference years ago, because of my intrigue with the Zodiac Killer. The subject is certainly a black mark on the history of this watch, but I became fascinated with the case - not for being a "fan" of it, but out of intrigue in the mystery and genuinely wanting to see the case solved. Pretty ominous that the killer certainly took his name and symbol from this company, and possibly this exact reference. I believe this was the reference owned by one of the prime suspects (whom I actually don't believe was the perpetrator)... but that's a subject for "open discussions"

Incoming Sea Wolf from a mixed eBay lot. Only really this one image to go from. Cost around 150 USD for everything and hopefully it's possible to bring it back to life. Only obvious worry is the bezel, is it dirt or a missing chunk ?

I picked this up while buying a couple vintage watch tools on craigslist. It was a throw in with a couple dozen other vintage watches as he was cleaning out all his old stuff. I didn't even look at them. He serviced and repaired watches for all his buddies in the navy (I think he said Far east during the 60's). There were piles of Bulova NOS parts which he gave. He saw the zodiac one in the coffee can of old watches, grabbed and said that was his watch, bought at the PX, and threw it back in the can. I was not familiar with the brand, so thought nothing other than it was interesting that he didn't want his watch from the Navy. It needs a crystal and I don't see any on auction sites. Anybody know if they are available and where? Also in the can was the longines, which is now serviced and running great.

The above post is a "technical difficulties" mistake.
What I meant to post was that I just (kinda) acquired an early '60's Sea Wolf !
    I'm TOTALLY stoked !
Its on lay-away so it'll be mine soon.
