it is also my understanding that the 105.002 is the rarest straight lug speedmaster, being produced for six months or less. Perhaps the 2915's are rarer? Mind you I suspect there are a fair few 2915's held by collectors where as the 105.002 may be genuinely scarce, having been slightly overlooked. I have no facts to go on, only conjecture.

Which also raises the question, is possible to have (ex-factory) a 2915-3, a 2998 and a 105.002 that look the same from the outside, the only difference being the reference engraving and the serial range?

The only thing I can think of is the spear chrono, that came in around 2998-3(?).

Different hands, different bezel, different dials. These three references have many differences.

Hi Spacefruit - the spear tip chronograph came into being on the -61 and -62 2998's. prior versions (-6, -5, and lower) had the white needle-tip chrono. The exception being some -2's, which had the luminous dot ("lollipop") dial.

Question - does anybody know what the run of the lollipop dial was so short? There must have been a reason it was introduced; and a similar reason why it was withdrawn so quickly thereafter. I'm thinking that part of the rationale was to find a way to illuminate the seconds count on the chronograph for night use; and the spear-tip hand represented Omega's second - and enduring - attempt at it

    cheers,
    Mark

    A beauty, congrats! :)

With regard to the crown: Does this apply to all 321 Speedies? Is there somewhere where the difference between a later service crown and the original one is illustrated with pictures? I have a 105.012 from a single owner, but unsure of the service history. Would like to determine for myself when it comes to the crown.

    Thanks!

There are two Omega symbols, the new and the old, if you look on the forum index you'll see the icon next to the vintage Omega forum is the vintage symbol and the symbol next to the modern Omega forum is the modern symbol, see which one your crown looks like.

    That's a beauty! Congrats!

A straight-lug is on my short list when the right opportunity arises.

    Congrats!

I have exactly the same configuration, that of late 105.002 with s/n in 20.5 millions. The 105.002 are rare, but this configuration is VERY rare with its original newly intrduced baton hands and a very very rare dial. I cannot say more for the moment, but you will discover the story in the MoonwatchOnly book. Teaser? Nooooo

Hmm so the dial is different from other 105.002s? I thought they were all consistent, interesting.

The serial on this one is 20.5M range too btw

I wonder if it's because the dial has tritium lume but not marked as such.

Just a theory since the lume on your dial has a tritium look.

this book story is very strange..... good marketing ( teaser/rare/new revelations.....) can easily turn into disappointment, if it fails to materialize.... kind regards. achim

Don't worry Achim, it will materialize, but as with many books (and other projects in any domain) is delayed of a few months...

Nope, not a matter of tritium, look at the distance between the Swiss Made and the Markers. On all previous dials, the distance is larger, whereas here it touches the markers. Furthermore, the main markers are a bit shorter (they do not touch the small counters), but not easy to see...Anyway, the importance of this dial is something else, but you'll have to wait...thanks for understanding.

Can't tell what's more beautiful/impressive: the watch, or the work stefan did to it!

    Congrats to both of you!

Here's my 105.002-62 to compare. Serial 19.83x. Guess mine is the early version then, aka 2998-62 dial. Only thought the hands differs on these 105.002's, but also the dial before the 105.003 version? Interestering!

By the way has anyone looked to see what is under the rhodium plate on the alpha hands on these and at least some years of the 2998s?

Yes, it's a trick question of sorts.
