This watch I purchased a while back, probably one of the most expensive buys I've made off eBay, but definitely one of the coolest as well. Its a very original 105.002-62 with stick hands on 7912 bracelet with radium dial and correct bezel, bought in fairly rough condition but cleaned up expertly by stefan in the UK, here are the before pictures:
And the following pics are from Stefan after cleaning, servicing, new crystal, tension ring, vintage Omega crown (Thanks to one of our members here), and a lot of time and patience. Package should be arriving in about two days, can't wait to see it in the flesh:
Great job Ash, I went through a similar circumstance when I got my 2998-6 off eBay. Also got the same crown from the same member here, it looks great. In my case I also got a generously donated bezel as well from one of our medical members, which I really appreciated. You now have a truly special watch, one can not fully appreciate these early straight lug, PM's, until you own one You should change the thread to something like, "2013, Out With A Bang, Incoming - Speedmaster 105.002-62 Pre-Pro"
Love it. And great job by Stefan. Still very much in the hunt for a straight lug speedy. Slightly envious.
Looking good! It has really scrubbed up very well and a refinish of the flat link 7912 works wonders too
Michael is the member I mentioned that supplied the crown, as many would know the original style 321 Speedmaster crowns are effectively gone, Michael's replacement crown is a genuine Omega 2914 Railmaster crown modified for use on a 321 Speedy, which makes it the best replacement possible on these pieces and retains the original large size and old school Omega symbol on the crown so thanks for that mate.
And for anyone that isn't big on pre-pros, the ST105.002 is a bit of an odd-duck transitional reference that fits sort of like this: CK2998-62 ST105.002-62 ST105.003-63 It is really just a CK2998-62 that has had its reference changed to the later 6 digit format, and can have CK2998-* Alpha hands if it carries an earlier serial, or 105.003 style stick hands if it is a later serial. It does retain the case, bezel, and radium dial of the CK2998-* family and is considered the final evolution of that model, and the first stick hand model. In this case its a late-ish serial so the stick hands are correct and original.
