Ulackfocus recently showcased a birth year watch in his collection. Though I’m more vintage Speedmaster focused, I thought immediately on seeing this particular watch: “must have”.What ensued was a flurry of messages and the watch became mine after a meeting of the minds.Ulackfocus was immensely helpful and supremely intuitive.

The transaction was flawless. Ulackfocus earned another star. Great guy!!

It’s my first vintage JLC / alarm wristwatch and I’m sure you’ll agree, it’s a beut. Most of you have already seen many of these so I won’t bore you with lots of photos. Here’s one, as proof. The watch is immaculate and truly needs no further introduction. So enough talk, here it is (again)

    Happy Day :)

    Your FIRST?

How many do you intend to squirrel away?

    :D

And on a serious note - Congratulations!

    It's a splendid watch.

I've actually seen this one in person. It is in excellent condition and has a rare solid gold case with a steel back.

Although I have a US market Memovox, it's nowhere near as nice as this one.

    Well done!

You almost feel one of these JLCs just isn't enough, but that's the effect of it.

    What an amazing watch ::jumpy::

    Thanks guys!

Glad I could help you score your first Jaeger. There will be more, and we'll be ready to vet them. ;)

As many as he can get his hands on if you ask my opinion. I had two identical (one in ss and this one in 14K) which prompted the sale of the subject watch in this thread.

This is my earlier Memovox. Also solid (I think), but rose (I think), gold on a Stainless back with a 489/1 inside. It dates from the early 50s and I bought it from the family of the original owner although I don't have any paperwork to back that up.

Is yours really 14K gold? That would make it a European dial cased in the US wouldn't it?

No. JLC made a version of the E855 waterproof case with calendar in 14K and steel. Here it is in one of their catalogs from the mid-1960's:

To my knowledge, the above was not a US market piece. The LeCoultre brand was still very much in business at this time.

I'm not sure if this configuration was used for any other JLC watch.

Not at all. It's quite common to get a watch of that caliber (pun intended) and be on Cloud 9 for four or five days at least.

I too recently picked up my first Memovox, a GT from 1970. Amazing how loud the thing is. I even spilled a cup of water when the alarm went off the other day. Have to be careful using it in public!

Only drawback is that it is a bit of a pain to set the exact alarm time without the minute hand of the Omega memomatic.
