Bought another Speedmaster. Didn't plan to, it just happened. Just like the bottle of Chardonnay I didn't plan to finish half an hour before.
There I was, drunk in a hotel room, lying next to my kid who was taking his "afternoon" nap with a laptop in my lap. A Chuck's holy grail Speedmaster was coming up next on the auction block. Alcoholism and hoarding/collecting don't really work together, if it did I would have a perfect collection by now.
In the last two months I had two deals that have fallen through. The second one was two days before the auction. Won't go in to details, but I'm still not sure if that was a good or a bad thing. Because of the first deal I didn't buy an amazing tropical '69 during the Munich watch fair and I'm still pissed about it.

    https://omegaforums.net/threads/tropical-speedmaster-at-munich-watch-fair.72140/

That meant I had funds for almost anything in the realms of normal watch collecting.
And I was still missing the sixth vintage Speedmaster in my collection, because I separate my watches in to boxes of six. I have 6 identical boxes that fit perfectly together in a medium sized safe. You got to admire my "logic". I already have 5 great vintage Speedmaster in my collection and a brand new one with a bracelet and endlinks from '62. So it was only natural that I added a sixth vintage "moonwatch" and put new new one in another box. Then I'll have a complete moonwatch only watchbox.
I noticed the holy Speedmaster 10 days ago. I've wanted a 376.0822 for a long time, but nice ones rarely came up for sale in my part of the world and there was always some other cool chronograph what I got days before an original holy speedy showed up for sale.
Lets get back to the Chuck's grail. It was difficult to see in the auction photos if the dial had concentric circles in the subdials. They usually photograph the watches in a white box that creates the white reflection in the haselite and makes the dials look washed and without contrast. In my intoxicated state I convinced myself that the Speedmaster has concentric circles in the subdials by looking the 15, 21 and 40. The 1 in the 15 and 21 looked jagged, like it was printed on a cd track. Only those straight lines are under an angle of the radial tracks. I somehow saw a parallel shadow line above and under the black wedge at 2 at the number 24. I just spent 20 minutes in Photoshop trying to enhance the parallel ridges at 2, not sure how I saw it them the first place.
The tritium on the 3 hour plot looked like it was added by a 5 year old, just like most of the original 376.0822. The hands were ok and the case and caseback looked like the real deal. The bezel (b4) falls in to the second batch of 376.0822 and the serial (48,233,7xx) as well, according to the Moonwatch only article. The watch had the right 809 end links and 1450 bracelet meaning that the previous owner didn't care if Chuck thought that the "right" endlinks were the 808s.
The case and bracelet had a lot of gunk between them so I don't think the watch was prepared for the auction. As one wise forum member( and a speedmaster hoarder) once said "dirt is good".
Have to also confess that after a whole year of abstinence from hoarding/buying chronographs, I bought two speedmasters in less than 48 hours. That's a story for another time, I know you'll all bored by now.
Here are the photos, let me know what you think. It will be at least two weeks before my hands on the watch, so this is all I got for now.

Nice Holy Grail, your life is now complete and you will never be able to wear another watch. Well according to some.
What about this?? " I already have 5 great vintage Speedmaster in my collection and a brand new one with a bracelet and endlinks from '62."

I read all the 13 pages of jet black non-wedge prototype dial thread. I couldn't resist it, like another cool forum member nicely said : it's like watching a car crash in slow motion.
    What happened to @TsoloT?

    Dear Sebastian,

Couldn't find the time to go though all my photo backups so I had to take some from my Instagram account. I don't think I can call my group of Speedmasters a collection, they are far from mint or really special, but I really like them. If you want to see a real Speedmaster collection visit Alfredo (doctorsteelitaly on instagram @doctor steel).

    Sincerely yours,

    Ray Gardner
    Spokesperson for Blackcurrant Tango

P.S. I consider the chronoquartz a Speedmaster even if it was never advertised as one.

Make sure you read the other train wreck thread about the Apolla Soyuz “pre production” watch made after the Limited Edition.

Amazing thread. If you skip one third of the pages where one member repeats itself over and over again it's actually a great read. I though that the A-S Speedmasters were worn by astronauts from both sides during the mission, hence their astronomical value and rarity. ::facepalm1::::facepalm1::::facepalm1:: It's amazing how much I don't know about the Speedmaster.

Well there are 50 watches that where flown but not used on Skylab though. Those have paperwork but no external marks... those never come up though.

The Grail is the single greatest watch Omega ever made, and may possibly even be the greatest watch of all time. Congrats, and enjoy yours.
