Thanks guys. I love it. I've mostly been a Rolex guy for many years but I've had a few Omegas. Ive always wanted a 30. To me, it seemed a bit like a Rolex Explorer. More rugged than most.

Thanks guys. I do believe it's about as original as a 50 year old watch can be. The movement looks SPOTLESS too. I was very surprised at this. The watch was sold as un serviced but the timekeeping is so close and that movement so clean, I suspect it was done within the past few years.

I chose a custom strap from Choice Cuts Industries. He's based in Charlotte NC, which is where I live so it's nice to keep the business local. His hybrid traditional/nato straps are right in my wheelhouse. This is what I chose, with a neutral stitch:

I have a brand new 18mm omega clasp from Ofrei to complete the look. Back when the SM30 was sold, you bought the watch and then picked out a strap so I'm just carrying on the Spirit today.

So I think I've been cheated. No way this is a 50 year old manual wind cal 286! It has to be quartz. Over the past 5 days I've been right at +/- 0 seconds a day! At estimate to whoever serviced it last.

Sure is. The only comparable movement I have is a Rolex cal 1520 and even recently serviced it's just barely within cosc spec. Although it was never supposed to be. Says a lot about older omega movements

what would the todays retail price be I wonder for a SM 30 if it was manufactured today with the same material quality as in the 50s-60s? What watch is comparable by todays standards?

I talked to the owner of a nearby watchmaker who is specialized in servicing omegas and especially vintage omegas and he talks a lot about how the materials being better back then and the quality control being better etc.,when watches were made to last. He also said that his love for vintage omegas is because the quality of a 50s-60s SM is higher than and of the SM's today. True?  Anyway I know where my heart lies
