Being a proud owner of a Trilogy Railmaster, I gotta say, not only do I love the faux lume, it's absence would probably have been a deal-breaker. With nearly no exceptions, whenever I see photos of a vintage CK-2914 it has the tasty burn-orange colored lume plots. With all details being pretty much equivalent to the original case hand set, inner bezel, domed crystal, polished straight lugs etc.), the Railmaster 60thLE perfectly satisfies the vintage feel of the original. If the lume were any other color, that magic would be gone to those who know what a nice 2914 looks like. 20181102_214926.jpg 20181102_220728.jpg
And to that end, I think It's more justifiable to say that it's a mistake for the non-LE modern Railmaster to have faux lume. Perhaps in the case of the modern RM, it's not faux lume, just a "new, non-white" lume color....

Having owned the 60th anniversary, and also the black bay 58 (no faux Lume)

While the Matte dial of the 60th is really nice along with the fauxtina, I personally feel the sharp case, perfect crystal makes the whole package feels sterile.

In the other hand when you do wear a nice vintage piece with original cream Lume patina a long with the worn case and hazing on the crystal : it feels very very different.

This is from my personal experience and why I sold/traded the speedy away and will stay away from fauxtina pieces from now on.

That black-and-tan, so hot right now.

But seriously. This is one style cue that I'll never understand why people get their knickers all knotted over. It ain't anymore faux than pre-distressed leather (which looks awesome), faded jeans (also awesome), and salt-washed canvas (again, awesome). Sign me the hell up.

Plus, when it's done right, it doesn't look like it's trying to emulate a vintage look, it takes on a new personality entirely.

I think it is just another colour of lume and is not faux anything. Sometimes it looks really good sometimes not.

But you could always wear the hell out of that watch and naturally round the edges and scratch the crystal, but no matter what you do, you will never be able to make white luminova turn coffee colour. That way, one day, the so-called faux lume on these watches will look just right.

    For sure!

But currently I wear the hell out of my vintages too haha.

I definitely am in the minority here but I'm just so afraid to scratch or ding my modern pieces because they are so pristine sharp and "untouched"

Whereas my UG cases are dinged, there's hazing on my Vintage seikos crystals and just so many "flaws" that I don't care anymore and just wear them.

Yeah, one of the reasons my Railmaster hasn't left my wrist has been my desire to "age" it with light signs of honest wear so that the outside matches the apparent aging of the dial

I don’t think it’s hate on the lume. Just poorly executed modern "vintage" watches.

Not an Omega, but I love the faux lume on my JLC Geophysic true second. I think this watch, which is already pretty clean in design, will be "too clean" and less interesting without the faux lume.

That's a nice way to approach it! Comes with the added benefit of not getting heartbroken after banging the watch.

For many of us, we can only dream of owning ultra rare and ultra expensive iconic vintage watches. I think the well executed reissued "Trilogy" series and some from other brands are a balm. The faux patina really pops.

    Cheers,

Absolutely!....the outstanding execution of the Trilogy Railmaster has totally freed me from the burden of shopping for an actually vintage model. Whenever I see a nice 2914 with a 5-digit price tag, I can now look down at my wrist, smile and think "box checked" and move on.

The trilogy came out in September/October. Maybe it's meant to be a seasonal thing going for the pumpkin/Halloween color.
But seriously I think white lume would look kinda odd in this case.

And it's almost like owing a pristine vintage that comes with cutting edge movement.

I'd love to get one of those new RMs on the wrist to see what they're like . Haven't managed to find anywhere that has one though, not at home or on travels .

I'm useless at Photoshop but picture the trilogy watches with Superluminova.
They would be so bland looking.

Modern interpretation of a vintage design vs a modern vintage design.

Sure with these 2 you can argue the lugs and He valve but in 5-10 years will the faux vintage look be passe?

What if fauxtina ages to a perfect white...?

... minds WILL be blown! ;)
