Hi All, Just wanted to relay to you a cautionary tale that may save some valuable and important classic divers from becoming junk. I've lost count of how many Ploprof's I've overhauled this year, I think all but one were lacking the full complement of seals within the case and crown/tube. Some had the crystal seal in the wrong place, while others had seals which had long ago turned to liquid. This was the circumstance with the only one that appeared untouched. Not one of them was waterproof, not even a little bit. Meaning simply washing your hands could destroy the watch. Wearing them in a humid environment would cause the same fate in fairly short order too. If you are looking at buying one of these its probably a given that the seals are shot, incorrectly installed or absent. No matter what the seller says unless they can produce an invoice detailing that the seals have been changed. Most of the ones I've seen this year "had been recently overhauled and serviced." It really is not that hard to make these watches waterproof, they are designed so well and the seals are not expensive.
That is scary to see, especially where a watch has already had some sort of service and parts missed or installed incorrectly Would love to have a ploprof at some point but may need to sell a Speedy or two first
Yep, mine was one of those too..... Adam brought it back to life. And this thread prompted me to wear mine today.
