While I was refreshing my ebay search this poorly titled zero feedback watch popped up yesterday. For a minute I thought I should pass, but then I figured what the heck maybe it will pay off as a nice daily beater once it's cleaned up. Once I made the BIN purchase I messaged the seller and asked if the watch was even operating. He replied that they just had it looked at by the jeweler and it was operating fine and he would ship it tomorrow and that they were first time ebay sellers. It's a single owner watch and appears to be a well used and quite dirty. I've see dirtier finds here before so I'm hoping the residual DNA can be removed and it will come back to life. Looking at the photos I can see that the second sub dial and the chronograph hands have advanced about 12 seconds each between the two pictures. It's not much to go on but it does appear that the hands do in fact move. In one photo it appears that the dial might have a step on it as well but I'm unsure. I see the drop R as too so maybe it could be an early to mid 70's 145.022? I'll let you know how it pans out Thursday when it lands and I clean her up and get the bracelet off the head.
Posting this before it lands is the real gamble - giorgio_porco is out there (https://omegaforums.net/threads/you-have-to-be-lucky-twice.73548/) The bezel is worth more than the price payed so you are good if it arrives. Congrats.
I did wait until I received the tracking number and it was in the possession of the post office. I guess anything is possible.
Sure looks like a step dial in that first pic! Maybe a -71? Looks like you paid about 15% of it's value.
Always a possibility. I did check the name of the jewelry store he gave me and it is in the same city listed as the home of the seller. Again, nothing is for sure but like I said this is a gamble.
I think worth the gamble. Looks to be a step dial, as far as I can tell. The pics are quite poor, but my experience is that they are usually better in real life, so I hope that holds true. The case looks a bit polished, but at the price point I think worth the gamble.
I can't really sort that out from the images but the bottom left lug top looks sharp and I'm hoping it's the poor lighting making it look softer then it might be.
I'd be confident that you'll get the watch. If they sounded cordial and friendly they likely are. Bad pics like that beget good watches. Thanks for sharing. These are the thrilling finds we all hope for.
Not a step dial as some have suggested, but it looks to be a nice late-'70s to '80s example. Love these "3510.50" finds!
I think you are right. Something about the listing along with the communication felt right. I also think the "Who gives a shit what bracelet I put on it" gives it a real bit of authenticity. Here is the response from the seller after I thanked him for the tracking number and prompt shipping. "The only part thats a bit dirty is the back but it should come right off. This was my grandfathers watch hope you like it. To be honest I don't know if its been cleaned or anything and I'm pretty sure he bought it new back in the day and it looks like it's in good shape so I'm sure this watch will last for long time. Sincerely, XXXXXXX" Looking at the pictures again I think you are right. Empty box or a box with a watch in it, it has left the originating post office now and is on the way.
