I attend local auctions and when I see something that I like I take a chance and buy it. A couple of weeks ago an Omega with just the word "Automatic" came up and was priced right so I bought it. From another forum I found out that it has a bumper movement. What I'd like to know is what model would it be called. I've attached a few pictures: The back has the number 2438-7 stamped on it and the serial number found between the jewel and the pivot is 11111###. It is a presentation watch and the inscription on the back has the company name, the person who received the award and was presented for 25 yrs service. The date indicates 1923 which I assume is the start date of the person with the company. If that's correct than the watch would have been presented in 1948/49. Thanks for any help. Barry
I don't see 2438 listed in the Omega history website, but that wouldn't be a first. Someone should be along shortly with more info...
It's a classic watch from the pivotal Omega 1946 collection. It is a 2438 (which as TE notes, is not in the OVD), with a stainless case with pierced lugs. The crown looks to be original, so does the dial, but I am not sure about the hands. The movement is a 28.10 bumper automatic (with exposed springs) which appears to be in fine cosmetic condition. The movement serial number dates it to 1947-48. Omegas like this have no model name as such and are identified by the case reference (2438 in this instance). It is in great condition for its age, and you snagged a very nice watch!
Do you think that a caseback might be found so I can replace the engraved one with it? And would this forum be the best place to find one?
