Consider it fair warning. Feel free to use it in the High End Forum when talking about Patek dress watches though.
"Too far"? I haven't stretched the definition by one iota. Every single watch to which I've applied the word is a text book example of art deco. Those happen to be the watches I like and no one has a monopoly on the use of words from the history of architecture and design. The stretch is to imply there was any stretching.
Great idea! Let's add those! Slightly different game: not all of them are art deco.... Which are the ones?
Okay, at the back, left, Beau Brownie Kodak double lens camera designed by Walter Dorwin Teague. (Really awesome too!) Good night guys!
I hope you will forgive my ignorance (I know very little about PP), but seems the Forum is struggling to find a generic term to describe a PP Calatrava-like simple watch, is that right? If Calatrava is already taken then maybe we should just invent a new term to describe such watches. How about Calamera; Mera (or Mero) meaning simple or pure in Spanish
I hope you forgive my bluntness How about a watch ; meaning a simple watch in English Not that hard we call a constellation a constellation speedmaster a speedmaster admiral a admiral conquest a conquest You don't know the model it's a W A T C H
Talk about "coin-edging" or "minting" a word! It's actually very pretty -- much better than "calamity" or "calamari" at least. (seems to me some here find it redundant to use a new word to refer to a watch that's just a watch.... personally I don't care so much anymore. I don't mind giving up "calatrava" if that means taking a stand against hyped up sales pitches. And "calatrava-style" works well too. But someone better get the memo to Hodinkee for the sake of effectiveness as they're kind of the ones who started it.) Best regards, S
I'm seriously considering replacing "Calatrava" with a silly word every time I see it. Further updates as events warrant.
Surely it could be nothing other than... ..."Squirrel!" I may be new, but I catch on, eventually As to designers, erm Mackintosh? Le Corbusier? Gotta confess that the missus is the brian trust for this stuff, I just know what I like.
