I'm finally pulling the trigger. I'm buying a Speedy Pro.

I've wanted a great watch to keep for myself for a very long time – probably since I saw an SMPc ad in my sophomore year of high school. I want a watch for life. A watch that not only looks great, runs strong, and has a great deal of respect amongst the watch community, but also a watch that has a very impressive back story.

I've owned and flipped numerous pieces, such as the SMP 2531.80 (loved this), a 3560.50 (the 30th anniversary Speedy), the 2503.33 Aqua Terra, the classic Great White GMT, and now a Planet Ocean.

Amongst all of these watches, I'd have to say the Speedy had me the most impressed. It had me the most attached. It had won my heart over.

So, I've been saving my money, and I now have the cash to pull the trigger on a new or mint 3570.50 (as soon as the PO sells).

I just wanted to let you guys know that after jumping back and forth for all these months, I (think) I have finally made a lasting decision. I'm excited to become part of the awesome Speedy Pro owner's club, and I'm even thinking of buying a Moonwatch Only book to accompany my purchase, simply to gain appreciation for the piece that I'll have strapped to my wrist for many years to come.

Keep on trucking, y'all. I love being a part of this community, even though I read more than I post. You guys are the best.

Yes! I owned one briefly. However, it was from 1999, and I've wanted a newer one for quite some time.

It was my favorite watch by far, hence the reason I have decided to finally buy one. :D

I think the probabilities of another moon landing in the next five years are greater than Dennis buying a Speedy. :D

If you don't know who Dennis is then you clearly lack focus.... hint

You will not regret it. If you can avoid flipping it!

I agree, just make sure if you're concerned about the future condition to purchase some caseback stickers. Better safe than sorry.....

Hadn't actually considered that, not a bad idea, although I hope I never have to sell it.

... Bashing the bezel on the corner of a table on day 2 was far more troubling ;)

Are you sure it was a "terracotta pot," buddy? Looks to me like most people have difficulties with Omega damage while operating other hollow artifacts.

Haha! You guys are cracking me up.

To me, a watch ding isn't like a car ding. Each new ding, scratch, and scuff adds character. You know the craze over vintage watches? I like to think that my watch will only become "vintage" if I wear it, love it, and am not afraid to scuff it up.

I look forward to putting some scratches on this baby. ;)

Hence the scratch on a terracotta pot, the 165.024 covered in chicken shit is another story! I suppose if I had a diamond bezel the pot would have come off worse!
I can see a whole new thread of "stupid ways I've added patina to a vintage Omega" starting!
