I'm confused about Speedmaster reference numbers.

The 145.022 came into being in 1968, the current version is the 311.30.42.30.01.005. Where does the 3570.50 fall into place?
For example, this Wikipedia article (http://bit.ly/2rBugGX) goes into great depth, but other than a photo of a 3570.50.00 it isn't specifically mentioned.

Between the 145.022 and the 3570.50 was the 3590.50, too

The 3590.50 had the 861 movement, then the 3570.50 switched to the 1861. The 145.022 had a stepped dial, the latter two flat dials?

3590.50 and 3570.50 are model numbers. 145.022 is the case number.

Flat (or "domed" ) dials started in the early 70's.

It's easier to just think they are all the same watch and Omega went through some different numbering systems. As even within each individual reference there where minor changes. Providing your only referencing hesalite with the steel back.

IMHO it's more important to know which years the changes occurred.
    68 trans with AML
    68-70 a few casebacks
    -71/84 last step dial
    -74/76 Speedmaster font change
-78 the last of the 145.022-xx and the dropping of -xx from the name.
Through the 80's some font changes and bezel changes
    98? Last Tritium etc.

    145.022-71 caseback

Modern Speedies have 145.0022 casebacks to denote the newish assigned part number of the case. ;)

read my edit. there are a few variations on the -71 CB I did not remember it being arranged like that. hence the edit to remove the reference to it being a replacement cb.

Ah...clear as mud...:p. Seriously, thanks, I think I understand now. From what I've been able to glean from the serial number (48371XXX), mine is from late '98 to early '99.

What is "AML?" And when you say "domed," does the minute track slope away from the rest of the dial? It seems to, but it's hard to tell under the hesalite.

    Thanks again.

1st does your say "T Swiss Made T" or just Swiss made at the bottom?

AML is applied metal logo. I.e. The Omega logo is not printed but a silver metal logo.

Dome vs step. The 145.022-71 was the last watch to have a step just inside the minute track, the watches after that are domed or sloped without any step.

If you're up for spending $200, the book Moonwatch Only (Amazon) has all the history you could ever want.

More history than I want! My interest isn't nearly so scholarly.
