Well - it's official - I'm a Nomos lover. Besides a reduced vintage collection, I've fallen hard for this new German company. Here is the selection I've been carefully collecting over the past two years, all used. Ebay hunts are your friend. Very happy with them. I'll be waiting for the Minimatic now (need an automatic), though I'd like to stall and see if they come out with a new hand set.
Such quality pieces. If they would just adjust where the lug bar sits so that the strap to case gap wasn't so massive I would snap up a Club in a flat second. I really love the Dunkel version you have. Thanks for sharing these photos. That last is a stunner.
Wow! I just looked over on eBay. What beautiful pieces! Keep us informed of your acquisitions and post lots of photos.
Big fan of the brand here also. Very good value for money, even new. I have the 35 mm Tangente, and my wife has the Tetra, and we bought them on our trip to Germany in 2013. Cheers, Al
They are remarkably well priced, I remember when I first saw @Trev's Glashutte Original Panomaticlunar I was similarly thinking this is cheaper than a Rolex Submariner... and its that well finished?
Hi David, I really like the older 37mm Metro that you're wearing. IIRC you have similarly slim wrists like mine - how does the 37mm Metro wear? Am curious, and am itching to buy one!
i fell hard for the orion 1989 and found one at a store in NYC so now I'm a proud owner and love it. beautiful timepieces
GO is certainly another brand that I consider to be good value for the money, although on a different price level than Nomos is. Not an accident that I own both brands. Their finishing is quite well done given the price point: Cheers, Al
Well, I'd say that unlike many who would prefer to see the Nomos a few mm's larger (which is why they made the newer Metro in 38.5mm ), I would prefer it were 35-36mm. That being said, I think it looks perfectly reasonable on thin wrists. Importantly, it's not thick, which helps a lot. GO's are too large for me - I can't even consider them!
Agreed. I very much want to have an Orion, as well as several others, but the length of the lugs are putting me off a bit, due to as you mentioned, the gap it creates for the strap. Perhaps seeing one in person may change my mind. And while I'm at it, wishing, I'd love to see a larger seconds hand sub dial and moved closer to the 6 O'clock position. Over all though, Nomos seem to get me close to a modern equivalent to some of the vintage watches I crave.
Nice! I'm a fan of Sinn and have a U2 ... always have to decide between white dial Omega GMT, black dial 50th Anniversary Omega GMT, or the Sinn U2. I'll take some photos when I get home
The Panomatic Lunars are truly lovely, but sadly even the older 39.5mm GOs are too big and thick for me - somehow they wear like a 41mm watch, even bigger than my 40mm GMT II or Sub. Pity as they have nicely decorated movements and that lovely little micro-rotor. Sigh.
The finishing of the movements is best on manuals IMHO, love those. Re. the price point: Maybe the lower wages in Germany compared to Switzerland are responsible for this. I could imagine that the smaller volume of German watches like Lange, Original Glashütte and Nomos will hold their value better than mass-produced watches like Omega and Rolex. Just a feeling, but I have not checked it with prices of used watches.
The proportion of dial to case is fairly big on these, so yes they do wear larger than their diameter would indicate.
