If you had to predict a sleeping watch giant for 2020...what would it be?

Just a bit of fun nothing else.
It seems each year at auction a vintage piece comes up that surpasses expectations by a long way.

Is there another massive leap for a Nina Rindt, or a Rodania Geo, or what do we think?
Just for fun. Predicting the future is of course a Terminator Arne year or 2 away :)

So more a speculative...what do you think it 'should be'.
If this were a reality show....the breakthrough watch act of 2019....underrated till now ::popcorn::

UG Polerouters have been getting a lot of attention of Hodinkee and the like. Prices have already started to rise. As someone who does not currently have one though...I should probably be keeping my mouth shut

Zenith Prime. Hand wound variant 38mm chrono from the mid to late 90’s. Impossible to search for and basically nothing on the internet about them. Great looking and affordable. Its an El Primero without the auto winding supposedly.

    Ok bonus....

Hamilton Team Earth aka the Harrison Ford.
One small drawback it’s 43mm but it’s one hell of a great looking pilot with the big crown and the bonus fluted bezel. From 2010 and relatively unknown.

I'm not omniscient in any way, but feel very strongly that Movado M95s are obscenely undervalued for what they bring. If I had to bet, I think they'll be brought into the spotlight at some point soon. And no, I'm not just saying that because I have a couple of them...there are plenty of other watches that I thought could be "the next one" and upon handling on in person, wrote that notion off. The M95...it's legit. Take my word for it.

Wow those are beautiful. I especially love the little squiggly chronograph min and hour hands on the first one. Such a unique detail!

And everything in a Spillmann case, especially UG‘s and Doxa. There are also more affordable and still lesser known brands that used them.

Those are great too. That said black/gilt 6238‘s are fetching high prices at auctions for quite some time now. Short thread drift: 6238‘s long or short Minute hand? Is there are consensus? I tend to say long is original, but it’s a highly discussed subject.

Not exactly a sleeping giant but I see high demand and a lot more buzz around Omega Suveräns in 2019. The stunning example bought by Kyle will create demand and we will see more people chasing them. Then again I sold a very nice Heuer Autavia for about $4k and about 12 months later it would have sold for $8k so I’m not the greatest predictor of fashion.

Wow, if that was 36 or 38 that would be one hell of a watch!

So this may shoot myself in the foot too, but if I had to make a guess as to a watch that hasn't yet shot to the stratosphere, but well could, it would be the Heuer Autavia GMT 2446C. Sure, examples currently aren't cheap around $10-14K. But I think that's undervalued personally, when it contains a Valjoux 724, the Heuer name, and stunning good looks. My personal favorite is the Mark IV example with red hands, which seems to combine the best qualities of a racing dial, GMT, and chronograph, along with a Pepsi bezel. In short I find it amazing, and would love to own one.

Sinn 60’s, 70’s, even into 80’s, 90’s - they’re beautiful and I often very, very rare tool watches. They issue great Modern limited editions which could really spark collector interest if they leverage their heritage better.

Not giants perhaps but sleepers nonetheless: the Seamaster 552, 562 and 565 range offer movement quality on a par with the COSC-rated equivalents and are still undervalued. See for example this 552 which made just £395 2 days ago. All original, excellent dial and hands, high-quality case in good condition and even an Omega strap and buckle. No movement pic but if the rest of it's anything to go by, there won't be any significant issues. Expect good deals like this to vanish as people cotton on. IMO it's only the lack of a dedicated dress Seamaster web page that's keeping them down.
