    not sure if there's a good, clean Omega I'd buy at that price, worth collecting from my view this point in time :thumbsdown: ...

    but then I've really only looked long at Speedies, Connies, Seamasters, circa 1960

    I'd spend it on servicing and Omega or two and buy some straps.

    There aren't many CLEAN $500 Omegas that really trip my trigger anymore. Probably owned most of them already. :p

    Have had some good under $500 buys over the years, sometimes all they need is a little crystal polishing. :) Should be able to find a good 35X Seamaster Bumper or 50X Seamaster.

    I just got this for $350, but it has been polished, and I haven't "submitted it" for scrutiny yet...

    I picked this up for $500. I know the pics are bad, but the watch is very clean! I put on a new strap. I am just learning and have not had it open, but I think it is a 30t2 movement. I think I made a good buy, or atleast hope I did because I like it so much I would have no problem with another 1940's this clean for the price.

    Hard - have bought many for $500 and under but the thing is they're worth quite a bit more. You're going to need to be lucky at that price point.

    If you are lucky, A SS Connie C case would be a good buy at a little bit above $500

    Just a little above that might take you to a Seamaster Chronostop as well -- and we also have those nice little Seamster De Ville ones.

    You can buy a clean omega constellation 5XX, which was my personal grail recently, for under $500, but you may just have to spend a few weeks looking for a good one.

    See: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...RENCY=0&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&LH_Complete=1Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

    Plenty of clean seamasters to be had at that price too:

    I recommend looking for the following on ebay:
    -Pictures that are crisp enough to tell whether the dial has been refinished and whether the case has been over polished, but blurry/poor quality enough to turn off buyers who are looking after bling bling or photo shoot quality photos;
    -A good written description (proper movement calibers and case numbers, and condition descriptions such as mint condition, or light scratches, even though the photos may not show it, but only if the seller has good rep);
    -A reputable seller with a history of over delivering on expectations/descriptions;
    -A return period in case you don't like what you see.
    -Maybe try out a good snipe website like gixen.com

    Don't forget that you will probably want to get it serviced which could run you another couple hundred dollars.

    Also, if you are going for a connie, study Desmond's blog http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com (but you probably already know that)

    Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled on some deals in the watches for sale section
