If all things were equal KS 52 special or PiePan 168.0025

I'm torn between the 2 watches KS52 Special (black dial) any expert can tell me if seiko actually offered this colour? Can't seem to find much literature on variations. And the other contender is the Constellation PiePan 168.0025(white dial). Say the condition for both watch is good and comparable. (This could be the last purchase of this year!)

(Not the actual watches, for reference only)
I wonder if I will get an impartial views from here.
Sidenote, this forum is now my go-to for everything I need to ask, you guys have sucked me in, ya'know John Snow!

Thanks.

I'm a fan of the pie pan, I think it has just that little extra something something in terms of design and distinctiveness.

Seiko for me. The 5224 (If I'm right) is such an excellent movement. tired of the extra cost of the pie pans.

Yeah I hear you. The piepans tend to be a bit more expensive, hopefully, these shouldn't be too far.

5645 (date only)
5646 (day-date)

I'm looking for one but Seiko chronometers tend to reach rather crazy prices now too😵‍💫

Movement picture of the two will help you make a decision 😉

I know what my watchmaker would rather service and get parts for.

If I were to find some parts, Seiko too. 20 euros a balance, 15 euros a pallet fork.

I would go for a good King Seiko, but your question about the dial is a good one. There are more than a few excellent redials coming out of Korea, and some were not in original colors.

+ very hard polishing in Korea, forget about the sharp edges very often.

Absolutely.... So many Seoul specials.... Appearing in eBay and JP too... So I've looked at quite a few old Seiko catalogues, but no black version..... As good as they are, just wouldn't want a non official colour version.

Would u be interested in a mint 5626-7040, white dial albeit the official bracelet/leather/buckle. If all things go to plan.

Good call! Lord Marvel popped my vintage cherry back in May. The collection has escalated to 6 since then, the wife has been at me ever since. Not good. It's definitely one thing I never discuss or show her new acquisition anymore. If she spots something new on my wrist. I just reply, "it's the same one as before".

The Seiko Daini 5245/5246-6000 Special was originally available with a black dial.

As @Tony C. has already mentioned, you have to be very careful of redials. The dials refinished in South Korea tend to look more glossy than the originals and the cases are invariably over polished.

I think the King Seikos with cal 52xx and 56xx are great watches with very accurate movements and interesting Taro Tanaka case designs.
