Can you show a macro of the short end of the hour marker? It's difficult to say much conclusively based on that shot of the seconds hand!
This is for my own knowledge, I am getting more interested in Omega vintage pieces since I found this watch. Also learning about the Constellation, what are payphone hands, why is it called Connie? I learned someone calls it Stella, as in Con-stella-tion.
I think Omega stopped using the onyx inlays and just used black paint in its place, but can't remember when they did that.
You need to try and take a photo “head on” to the baton, and hopefully execute it better than I !!!!! But heres a shot of a dome dial connie, hidden crown, from 1966 ( 168.004 ) - here you can see the depth of these inlaid onyx inserts - when seen with a loupe, they are really something else
Thanks for the images they look very intricate, amazing. I guess mine are painted. On another note, what are payphone hands and an explanation to connie?
I haven't heard of payphone hands, but "Connie" is a nickname for Constellations. Con-stellation -> Connie.
Your inlays certainly dont seem as deep or as square as the ones on mine, but they look to have some depth to them, so could they be onyx strips? Ie more than just painted on?
They are painted on... The "depth" to the marker is because paint has been applied to the end of the marker as well as on top of it Have a look at the enlarged photo and it is evident.
The paint used in these was a thicker like lacquer paint compared to later Omegas that have a thinner paint and you usually can notice as the paint doesn't come above the inlay like on the OPs watch You can see in this shot If you enlarge the 1 o'clock marker
