[Identify] My Dad's Vintage Omega

Hey Guys,

My grandfather bought this Omega for my father at pawn shop in the mid 70s. Any help identifying the model would be great! I know I need to take the watch to a watch shop to have them open the back to see the serial and model number but if you can identify before I do that it would be great. He never serviced it and I'm curious about the value before I spend money on the servicing.

Thanks in advance!

Its an Omega Geneve Calibre 1481 in gold plate from the early 1970s reference MD 366.0822 , probably 350-550 as yours is probably one of the nicer examples around of that model, most have had plating worn or polished off and edges softened but that one's nice and sharp.

The movement is a bit of an odd duck, shared with Tissot and not really mentioned that often as they didn't make them for long.

Worth servicing only because it is in quite nice shape case wise, has the bracelet and has a nice dial too.

Thanks! I'll try to have someone open it and get a pic of the caseback and report back on the exact model. Question. Do you think it needs to be serviced by Omega or would any reputable watch servicing place suffice? There's no warranty and so far its been working very nicely since i started wearing it. I just figure the servicing at Omega would be more costly then the watch itself.

Thanks,

I would get a quality independent to service it, Omega would cost more than the watch is worth in this case but good quality independent will still be a few hundred but do as good a job.

Here's a pic of the case back. Also I have a pic of the movement but it has the serial number on it. Is that OK to post? # is in the 33,000 range which i believe dates it to 1971. Please let me know if i should post the inside pic and if this gives us any additional information.

thanks!!

I think that should be the case number, 166.099 being used by several while MD 366.0822 is the specific reference for this watch in gold plate as you have it.

Is it OK to post a pic with the serial number? Would that give you any additional info on the watch or should that be blurred out?

There's not really any more information to be had, you've got everything pretty much now 😀

Omega 1481 and Tissot 2481 is the same . They share the same parts . If you need any parts for it you could look for Tissot parts instead . Usually much cheaper then Omega . I have just finished servicing a Tissot movement . It has a quick change date . If you press the crown you should be able to fast shift the date . That is often broken on this movement as it is a very bad construction . The parts are expensive to replace also .

Thanks Rogart. Yes it does have the pushcrown function. However it seems to be broken. I have to push it several times before switching the date. I dont want to mess around with it but ill have the person who services take a look at it. thanks.
