    Hi,
I have recently inherited an Omega watch and am looking to find more out about it.
I am hoping to find out what model it is and what sort of age it would be.
It would be nice to find out how far back in the family if goes.
If anyone has any ideas then I would be glad to hear them IMAG0048.jpg IMAG0049.jpg

Welcome to OF! The serial number of the movement dates the watch to ~1954. The model is the reference number which is on the inside of the case back.

    Nice watch.
It’s a British cased 9ct gold watch by Dennison for Omega, made in Birmingham.
(It was all to do with import tax on gold)
If you can read the date letter you can google British gold hallmarks and confirm the production date of the case, which is a more accurate way than using the movement serial number.

    Hi Rochete,
They certainly are nice looking watches, I have always had a love of mechanical watches and to have an Omega one is the icing on the cake.
I think that I should get mine cleaned and serviced before putting her in into regular use though - I am not sure how long she has been resting in the cupboard....

    Hi Peemacgee,
Thanks for the info, I never knew that hybrid Omega movement/watch cases existed - it has been an educational day today!
I live about 30 miles from Birmingham so the watch is still close to home.

    Pete.

Yes, you should. For the sake of it do not take it to Omega official service but to an independent watchmaker simpathetic to vintage.

That sounds like a good idea, I will have browse around on Yell and see if there are any well established jewelers near me....

That is quite a nice set you have not often to see these English top hat boxes with the original outer case
It would be interesting to see if it still has all its internal fittings
Because the case had a use (you can make it into a stand for the watch when not in use)most of these are incomplete
I will leave it to the dial experts as to whether that is original
    My 1954 266 says hello

    Hi Snowman,
The box is complete but I hadn't released it was a display case too - pretty cool!
From the responses that I have had it seems that, like yours, there are quite a few of these watches that have been loved and possibly passed down through the generations, I will try to look after mine too.

You should only entrust your watch to a recommended watchmaker not a local jeweller.
Someone like the watchguy or our own member @ChrisN

If the dial proves to be original and for my money it is you have the start of a nice collection
Get that strap checked it to could be original to the piece
As recommended I would entrust the service to Chris Nicolas at CJN watches
The movement looks in nice condition it needs somebody to work on it who will show it the respect it deserves

A jeweller is NOT what you need either, they don't repair watches but give to a watchmaker and then sell the service to you with a usually huge mark-up. You should look for the working guy and go directly to him.
