Identification Help

Hi,

I’m looking for help identifying and dating my grandfather’s watch. My understanding is my father bought it for him while serving in the military - so, my rough guess on date is the late 1950’s or very early 1960s. My grandfather passed away in the late 1960s, and other than to have been moved a few times, this hasn’t been touched since.

i know the band shown here is junk - any thoughts on an appropriate band would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your input.

From the looks of the lug profile it maybe a reference 2846 or a 2577. Do you feel a sort of a thumb when you move the watch? That would help to differentiate between the two. It may even be on some of the paperwork you have shown in the pictures above. In any event its a gold plated watch that looks very well preserved. The case appears to be in good shape. The crown has been replaced sometime in the past. Congrats!

Very nice keepsake and totally wearable.

It can be tough to find a bracelet that looks like it belongs with watches like that - bracelets can look a lot newer (shiny) or a different shade of gold. Also, over time, they tend to grind the watch between the lugs.

I have a few watches of similar vintage and I’ve personally preferred to pair them with leather straps, where you can find many good looking choices, and quite a few options that will give a vintage look.

When you get it serviced, add an Omega crown.

It’s a 2846 reference dating to 1955-1958. Add a leather strap and get it serviced but a trustworthy watchmaker.

+1 for the crown and the leather strap.
the dial is in superb condition. as soon as the crown is in conformity it will have regained its original splendour.
pretty watch!
