I understand that my 1961 Seamaster (Ref 14765-25C Cal 552) was originally sold on a leather strap, but with summer coming I am thinking about a bracelet for comfort in the heat. Any ideas on what would look good? My darker angels suggest that I should just buy a watch that was designed for a bracelet - very tempting. I still haven't decided on what the "summer watch" would be, but something equally casually-dressy for work is desired. Suggestions are welcomed. Thank you in advance, and have a great weekend.
These watches were designed for bracelets as well-they were an option. The popular one is the beads of rice (aka BOR). If you search google for beads of rice bracelet, you will see the Seamaster’s as one of the top hits
Beads of rice, at least correct one are pretty expensive at the moment and good examples are hard to pick up. A really nice black good quality leather strap should see you through the hot sweaty summer months. Good luck in your search.
You may also want to try this one. I got it on a seamaster along with the original bracelet. The PO said he got it from amazon, but didn’t tell me which one it was- I believe it is this one. It’s actually well made, has great weight and balance and is comfortable. The endlinks fit the case well enough (actually very well), and the additional strait ends are cool to mount on any watch with 18mm lugs without worrying about the endlink fit. 18mm Deluxe Jubilee Style Watch Strap Bracelets in Silver Solid Stainless Steel Links Deployment Clasp https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748DSJYD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_EJI1CbEPT31TY The pics are from the PO
I think the 9 row (or 7 row, nobody seems to agree what to call them) BOR goes best with these Seamasters.
This is the appropriate bracelet for your watch and I don’t think they are that expensive- usually around $200-250... people pay more for original crowns in this madhouse. Make sure it’s long enough though otherwise you will be hunting down links.
I stopped by my watchmaker today. He agrees with you, and forbids me from putting anything but leather on this Seamaster
Thanks for the thoughtful guidance. Only $40 or so on Amazon, it would be startling if the bracelet was quality at that price, but I am happy to be pleasantly surprised! It could always be returned...
