Our youngest is the only one of the family that 'gets' dad's thing for watches and she dropped a hint that she wouldn't mind having a good one. My thinking is quartz as it's not likely to be worn every day and she's 19 so having to wind a watch would be SO much effort (every one of you with a teen just nodded his or her head) and I'd like it to be a notch above the typical Fossil but I just don't know the brands. My budget is $250-300 but I'd stretch upwards of $500 for the "right" thing. I certainly would consider used but at this price point new might make more sense? She's not girly-girly so a tiny watch probably wouldn't be right. My 38mm Carrera looks ok on her wrist but that's about as big as I'd go, the 32-34mm range is probably about right. So folks, what should I be looking at? Thanks!
Seiko make great quartz watches, what about something like a sportura kinetic http://www.seiko.co.uk/collections/women/sportura/ska879p1#.VljfxX2nzMI
What about a 36mm (other sizes available) Mondaine quartz Swiss Railway watch. Elegant, simple, but interesting, not "girly", but not aggressively testosterone boosted and not that common. Should be in your budget. https://www.mondaine.com/watches/official-swiss-railways-watch/classic/a667-30314-11sbb.html
If she's going to wear it daily, why not a Swatch Sistem51 or Seiko 5? Also, many women I know are really into their Michael Kors watches, which I think are quartz and in your price range, but are considered very stylish (among the fashion set)
there is a great deal of unisex 33mm Hamilton field watches out there ... automatic, really nicely executed ... my wifey has one of those and it is a great watch ... dirt cheap (for what you get) also ... not sure if they do quartz here a generic photo on what I am talking about iirc, they come in all kinds of sizes as well 33mm/36/39/42mm that is a rather "classic" watch that - depending strap can be dressed up or down ... throw in half a dozen of nato straps and she has 6 watches ;-) cheers Al ps: quick amazon search: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...n+khaki+watch&rh=i:aps,k:hamilton+khaki+watch
Great stuff guys and exactly the kind of info I'm after. The Hamilton in particular are interesting because the company's roots are only about an hour away from where we live here in Pennsylvania but every suggestion so far has me doing a lot of clicking and reading. Thanks!
Check this out: http://toywatchofficial.com/us_en/collections/ My sister owns one and receives tons of compliments from non-WIS. She's very into fashion and a few celebs wear it. Prices are from $100 to $500ish. There's even a vintage section that looks like a Paul Newman
Yeah I had an A5 and my brother still has his A4 Avant from when they were under that name. They're actually going to be moving to Wynnewood because their Porsche dealership next door has to expand. I think the Porsche powers-that-be pretty much said they had to expand with the addition of the Macan.
I've never been there. I just recognized Conshohocken from your picture. I found mine on the internet, called them up and negotiated over the phone and they shipped it prepaid to me in about 3 days. Probably the best car buying experience I ever had. Took about 10 minutes!
Gulp my daughter just turned 17 this week, we getting her driving lessons for Xmas, I think a watch would have been cheaper in the long run OmegaSean
why not an hamilton kakhi? why chose a quartz. Spending 150 every 8 years for a checking is only three times changing the batteries.
I like the Hamilton a lot. However I don't expect her to wear it every day, that's why I was thinking quartz. She works as a dog groomer and said something about being afraid to ruin it. I told her they're tools, they're meant to be worn and used like that but at 19 she knows everything! I may go the auto route anyway but maybe go rubber strap or provide NATO's as previously suggested so she doesn't worry about them getting wet.
