This is my first post and I'm hoping someone can help me identify a model for this old-timer? It appears to be a cal 286, sn 21 350 387 (having popped the case back and seen this stamped on the movement). I bought it used in 2001 from Cresus in Lyon, France. The receipt says, "Montre Omega OR Rose 740/1000 Vers 1950" "Reference o91024/001" The year 1950 seems inconsistent with the cal 286; which was apparently manufactured in 1964 and would be consistent with the sn (according to google). So, I'm not sure what decade it was manufactured or what model line it belongs to. Am I the (embarrassed and disappointed) owner of a (not unattractive) franken-watch? Can anyone help? Apologies for the fuzzy photos (iPhone) Thanks
It would be useful to include pictures of the movement and inside case back, if available. Regardless, the serial number you indicated would point at a production around 1964. The dial is refinished and the sweep seconds hand is incorrect. Given the style of the case and all other issues I mentioned, I think this is likely to be a franken, put together from omega components from different eras.
It's still a pretty watch you can wear with pride though. Keep in mind this forum has a heavy collectors mind set that tends to dismiss anything not original.
Ask a question, expect an answer. BTW: not 'dismiss', merely 'discussed'. Non-original: the discussion will start again.... Welcome, Nyquist212!
I've enjoyed wearing it and it's received lots of compliments... but now that my suspicions have been confirmed I have to admit feeling differently about. I expect I'll part with it in the near future (probably ebay). Thanks for looking though.
@Joe K. Not you, but if you read through this forum you can get the feeling that anything not 100% original is crap and worthless which is not always the case. I hope the OP will still love his pretty watch and wear it.
