Interesting new player on the Auction scene.
Selling two speedmasters, reviewed here, with links to the Auction.

Photos are both from the Auctioneer, a 2915, and a 2998

It is interesting to note that they pitched the fees right up there at 25%, about which I am not sure what I think, (New business, unproven track record, much lower expenses so why the same fees as the big boys...)

The second interesting thing is the comprehensive photos given on each lot.

For that, they get a Bravo! from me.

What do you all think?

(About the watches, and the new Auction House)

Agree with your assessment on the 2915: the bezel is too worn, and the case edges are way too sharp to have gone through life together. I think the case has been re-worked.

You’re not wrong about the quality of presentation, a lot could learn from that

Hat's off to Iconeek for raising the bar on presentation. It's refreshing to see a newcomer put some real effort into making these watches pop. A little less refreshing to see them ask the same 25% fee as the majors.
As for the watches, the 2915-1 seems quite close in quality to the one sold by Phillips for $3.4m, but without Phillips' imprimatur I'm guessing the selling price won't rise near that level. It will be interesting to see the results though. The 2998-4 is attractive at first glance -- the lollipop is its best feature. But the estimate seems high considering the whole package.

With many auctions now online it would be good to see a reduction in fees. Appreciate that some auction houses invest heavily in marketing and promotion but I’ve have seen mediocre auctions charging in excess of 30% on the hammer price. This in addition to the sellers fee makes for a tidy profit.

I'm not exactly an auction expert, but 25% does not strike me as odd or even very high. Maybe because I'm in France, there may be taxes involved in those fees here. Even obscure small auction houses featuring mostly junk can have fees of more than 20%.

There was a recent watch only auction here in the UK where they set the buyer premium at 6 percent which I thought was pretty interesting, certainly encouraged bids.

I saw that auction, can't remember which auction house it was, unfortunately, but a (nice) Lemania WWW with MOD dial made £2.5k + fees, which is really top dollar. I agree hammer prices were certainly healthy, generally. Good for the vendors.

Someone on IG (forgot who) said something about the holes which seems to be in the numbers in the bezel. What does that mean?

2915 has some obvious questions that will affect the price.

the 2998 looks stunning…

The thing they are doing to stand out is offering a 0% commission for selling. I guess that is the move they are working with to stand out from others.

I have to recognize that the presentation is far away better than Antiquorum or Christie’s, I recognize a couple of pieces I sold to some people surfacing at this sale and they are accurate , I was contacted some months ago by one of the sellers if I was interested and the commission was low on mi side would say if they take you 5% on mimwatches they may have to switch to 25 to the other side , we’ll the market is dried of good pieces , don’t forget they are sellers only maybe they are a little bit more envolved in the sales process , presentations etc… and this makes a great difference against the big houses where money is the only interest .

but i like the way they do the book presentation I super easy to read with an iPad against the monthly clunky Antiquorum book that lie in the water loses actually 😀))))))

Cottee’s Auctions in Poole

certainly at the other ends of the spectrum on presentation though. Poor photographs and minimal information

Does anyone know the results of the Iconeek auction? Do they publicize their results?
