Hundreds of SFBs will be running to Netflix and On Demand so they can check out that movie. They'll probably wear out their rewind buttons while fapfapfapping to that scene.
All I could think about is how great it would have been if I had taken notice when I saw the film in 1997 and bought a speedy, given there was no wife on the scene to stop me.
First off, she can't stop what she doesn't know about. Second, maybe she's saving you from the ranks of the brainwashed Clevons and will allow you to purchase an intellectual's watch like a JLC or vintage Eterna, in which case she's a wise woman.
I love that movie and have seen it a dozen times and I can't believe I never noticed that. Beyond product placement, maybe it's a little way to link early space exploration with the future space travel depicted in the movie (even though it doesn't end up going very well for the crew in this one).
Watching the movie at work tonight (slow night) and wondered why it was still ticking. But a few moments later you see its a dream sequence. Makes sense why it was ticking...our minds automatically associate the ticking of a watch/clock and in a dream sequence, our brains would still probably pair the two regardless of situation (like in this case where it wouldn't be running after a couple days)
