I was told by a watch dealer that a 35mm watch is considered too small for most men

He was referring to the watch that I had on my wrist when he said this, and pointed me towards a new 40mm Omega De Ville (beautiful) as a modern replacement. I realized that he was trying to make a sale, but also noticed that the other watches there were mostly the same size or larger. Do you think this trend of large watches will reverse itself in the foreseeable future? I like the understated effect of small watches, and my wrist is pretty small anyway. Here's the 35mm watch that he was referring to.

That watch fits your wrist very well, and while a 40mm watch isn't too large (though is a bit on the large side for a 3-hander) it would probably be pushing the limit for your wrist. I'll put this one down to sales tactics - I'll bet he had nothing on offer under 40mm?

Every wrist is different, that watch suits your wrist perfectly if not a little large in my opinion. You could go 32-33 and pull it off.

The dealer had no concept of how Watch styles and fashion have evolved over decades. Naturally, a collector often have watches that represent the fashion from other eras. Pffft! Disregard jerks like that!

Agree with abrod520 and Rman. IMO, those extra-large sizes work well enough with divers and chronographs with lots of subdials and pushers, but for an elegant, simple design like yours that could be worn with a suit and tie, you don't need to go bigger. Nice watch.👍

Hmmm... Amazing that he should presume to tell you what size watch you should consider too small/large. Shouldn't that be the wearers decision? You should wear what size you like, not what size someone else thinks you should wear.

I would have had some fun with him for making that statement. Teach him a lesson by spending a couple hours trying on every 40mm watch and larger, then say "Nah, I'll stick to my 35mm watches. Thanks for amusing me!" and leave.

Agree that the 35mm looks just right for you. Just because I normally wear 38-42mm on my wrist (40-42 feels the best), there's no reason I can't wear a 36mm! I happen to like wearing midsize for sports and such--it's lighter, and less likely to bump into something, meaning I can worry about it less.

35MM are fine as long as they have wrist presence. . I have quite a few and they all work on my 190mm wrist. Such BS.

Sales BS...wear what you like, not what the salesman wants to sell you.
Personally I prefer the larger 37mm + watches, but I have plenty 34-35mm and I love them just as much.

To borrow a phrase from Wall Street, he was "talking his book". 35mm work well on almost any size wrists, and that watch looks perfectly proportioned on yours.

Having lived next to a former car salesman, that was certainly a pitch (and a halfhearted one at that!). If you prefer the smaller size then wear it. Of the three watches I wear regularly the largest is 37mm and will keep happily wearing them no matter what size is 'in.' If you like your Longines, which looks great btw, then keep wearing it proudly!

Look, honestly, 35mm watches may be a little small for a 190 meter wrist. Most shirt cuffs are probably a challenge too...

Probably a 34-35mm.

Here's the 35mm watch that he was referring to.

A Longines Automatic Conquest with patina? I'd wear that over any 40mm watch being offered 😀 If it looks good, stick with it!

(I might be biased since 31mm watches work with my small manly wrists...)

Newest JLC Master Control is smaller than the previous model. Data point.

Jaeger-LeCoultre are perhaps the best current watch marque when it comes to proper case sizes

I personally think the 35mm watch looks very good on your wrist. Just like anything else, I'm sure the trend will swing back to smaller size sometime in the near future.
