That's a beautiful 2998 @Spacefruit . Given that you have a few spares of those, I would say sell it. You and your wife will love the Aga and it will become the focal point of the home.

To properly power a AGA stove, which type of coal works best?

The records about a certain range disappeared (have been destroyed) in an incident... it's a common problem for early Speedmaster owners. Unless your Speedmaster was delivered to Switzerland : a binder containing the serials and all relevant information has been found by Gameo, a company who was former Omega's Swiss distributor, so those records are safe and available.

When I wrote here I want to request an extract for my 105.002, I've been told no chance - for the reasons above. I've been lucky, my 105.002 was delivered to Switzerland so I could get an extract for it :)

The 2998 will likely continue to appreciate, and the AGA will take a hit in value the day it is delivered to your mansion. Definitely find a way to keep the 2998. Heck, you can probably finance the AGA for 3-4% interest, and the 2998 appreciation will outpace that.

Wow - that's sort of shocking...this from the land of nameless bank accounts. Not heartening!

Well we had it tough. We used to have to get up out of the shoebox at twelve o'clock at night, and LICK the road clean with our tongues. We had half a handful of freezing cold gravel, worked twenty-four hours a day at the mill for fourpence every six years, and when we got home, our Dad would slice us in two with a bread knife.

Not my words. But of my favourite Monty Python act. Apologies, your words prompted me to reminisce.

Interesting, I've not heard of that story before. Is there a source you could share?

Sure. Petros Protopapas ;) I've learned a lot by hanging at the museum and archives with the guys. Living 30 minutes driving away makes it easier :D

Ah, nice. They should publish an article about that as it's a key pain point for speedy collectors. It's frustrating to simply have the request rejected, and it would be super to have official word.

Can you put the bug in his ear? :)

I believe they didn't do it because there is no clear rule to know if the information is available or not. Manual search in the archives is required for almost each request (I have done it together with them for some of my watches) some Infos come from giant books (old style databases) or invoices archived in binders...

    ... some others from microfilms.

But I hear what you mean and will address it with them next time.

Does Mrs Fruit not realise that all the best homes have a reconditioned Aga?

In watch terms, it's like having a 1960s Speedmaster that's been to Simon Freese instead of a new Omega boutique purchase. And it will cost about 50% less than a new one.

She might even start a collection...
