Great thread. Bulova made some excellent watches. I'm partial to some of their dive offerings like the Snorkel.
Here's a cool modern Bulova..... I know it's just a Bulova but its a lot of fun to wear. PS I have owned several very nice vintage Bulova's as well, including a sweet Accutron I still have
I like the modern Snorkel/ devil diver, if they only made 36mm versions I would certainly like to have one. https://www.chrono24.fr/bulova/bulova-devil-diver-oceanographer-96b322-automatic--id20484749.htm
Agreed, some of the modern "archive" reissues look very nice and could have been fun watches, but they tend to be sized too large.
They have corrected that wrong on the most recent 666 reissues doing them at the classic 41mm. The euro red and black bezeled ones were 41 as well and the orange LE. The new non-LE orange dial is also 41. Someone at citizen is paying attention. Hamilton also got the message with the Inramatic chronos now coming down to 40mm from their gargantuan size at first release. If they had done them at 38mm (which is the correct size for that form factor) then I would be saving my pennies.
Bulova, Benrus, Elgin... All made great watches in the 30's, 40's, and 50's. From art deco cases, alarms, and divers. I think the Bulova factory in New York is still standing.
I’ve got the reissue devil diver, because the bezel hangs over the case a bit it wears smaller than the 41mm case size would indicate. An important feature for us skinny types.
if bulova had gone to the moon this watch would be certainly sought after. I like all the risks taken in this design
It's not just a Bulova my friend, it's one of the most iconic brands in horology responsible for innovations that companies like Omega, Zenith and many other brands have benefitted from. Too many times do I see brands like Bulova, Timex get the nose up treatment by watch snobbery of the ignorant with the so called "luxury brands" on their wrists. Be proud that you have this brand in your family as I'm sure your son is very proud to have this masterpiece on his wrist. Well done good sir! Perspective of an enthusiastic watchmaker and collector
They did go to the moon, there's Bulova on the moon to this day. The their accutron movements were vital to Nasa for their computers and such. But nobody remembers or cares because of the speedy Lore. It's like rolex was first to summit, actually it was enicar, there's a reason why they have a model called the Sherpa. Just sayin.
