This one takes the cake for sure

Trolling eBay and, for the first time in many months, a real Railmaster 2914 (not a trilogy) pops up on my saved search. It’s a BIN no less. I immediately switch into HURRY THE F@CK UP mode and start processing information as fast as my old brain will allow. Half the vintage Omega world is gunning for these babies and I found it first.

Picture..... looks really nice at first, I think the dial isn’t bogus and it’s with the lollipop only found on this reference ::psy::
    I’m excited.

Price: $850........Way too cheap but YOU NEVER KNOW, maybe it’s legit, seller is uninformed
Seller rating: Zero.....not looking good at all but seller is from the USA and not Peru, Italy or some other scammer heaven and......YOU NEVER KNOW, maybe maybe it’s legit

But there’s something familiar about this watch.
Well, time is a-wasting and the whole world wants this watch so what to do ??
Right, hit the “buy it now” and then sort the details prior to payment.

5 minutes later, case closed, problem solved.
    IT’S MY WATCH ::facepalm1::

Same freaking eBay seller pics from a 2914-6 I bought early last year lol.

So I sent this crook seller a message but no reply yet.

    Really nice looking 2914-6
I’m lucky to grab it first
Any issues I need to know about?

I’ll call ebay later and throw the scum bucket under the ebay bus.
Knowing ebay, they may not even care that much.

Anyway, I probably saved someone else a headache.

My early morning $650 Speedmaster bargain two weeks ago worked out well for me so I have confidence this will pan out well for you.

    Nice catch!!

Thank you for sharing the details of your experience! Most people would never share that on the internet. They would be too embarrassed or some other self reflecting feeling. Yet, for someone like me who is new enough to know I am a noob and do not know what I am doing, it is a window into the reality that we all face trying to collect anything of value (be it watches, cars, stocks, etc). People we try to scam you at every level. The best thing to do it tread safely, do your research ahead of time, be ready with funds, and be prepared for a few bad experiences that come with some amazing finds during your hunt.

    Proposed message to Seller:

As I think I can flip this watch for a 1500% profit, how fast can you ship?

Better you than the rest of us I suppose?

Edit: Forgot to mention, I saw the listing as well and it had sold by the time I opened. Hence the comment.

When you’ve been around this forum as long as I have, it’s no big deal to have a big laugh at my own expense. We all are very good at it.

No harm done to me except wasting my time. Even if I had paid, I would have been reimbursed (eventually) by eBay.
BTW, Although a red flag, a zero seller’s rating is not necessarily a signature of a scammer. Every ebayer has to start with their first transaction and sometimes it’s a Speedie:

@gemini4 Since you bought a second one, how about selling me the first one for $850, you can keep the incoming one.You know, now that you'll have 2 identical ones. :D Funny story!

I once had a guy who bought a watch off me and literally used my pictures, and my description to resell the watch. This happened before he even received the watch from me. I contacted eBay about copyright on my pictures and they basically blew me off. Not worth the time to pursue. The only saving grace is the guy ended up selling it for less than he paid. Jackass!

wow. crazy story! So ebay doesn't do anything about these kind of sellers?

I remember having to put some details and ID stuff to become a seller on ebay... won't that bite him in the ass?

Nicely done. I've also "bought" bogus watches to keep them off the market, then went through the eBay process of getting the scumbag scammer booted. Problem is they'll just create a new account using a different email address and start all over.

The seller can just say "he already has possession of the the watch and I haven't received my payment yet!" :p

Moving forward, this is why I will forever refrain from adding a comment to any post that doesn't include a Speedmaster, astronaut pictures, those dumb little calendars, NASA themed sleepwear, or how Omega didn't make a Gemini 4 50th anniversary watch.

Getting up early and poor reading comprehension got the best of me here. Please add my post to the "2018 Posts of Shame" when it comes out later this year.::facepalm1::

In my defense, I really did buy a $650 Speedmaseter two weeks ago from a zero feedback seller that wasn't my own watch.:)
