Hi there! This is my first post on these forums, and I needed some help. Today my aunt gave me an Omega Seamaster that my grandfather owned. I honestly have know idea what year this was made, or if it's an automatic or manual winding. Any help or clarification will be highly appreciated.
take it to a jeweler to take a look at the movement and while your there take a picture and post it here!
This one does not have an opening case back, the movement comes out from the front after removing the split stem, and crystal.
and then the movement has to be rotated just the correct distance in the right direction to lift it out without damaging the dial, hands and movement. If you do it wrong, you have a nice heap of parts. That's why jewellers fix earrings, and watchmakers fix watches.
I'm guessing it's a caliber 562 or 565 ref 166.020. Mid 60ies. Most I've seen have been Seamaster De Ville. Since it's accessed from the front, the waterproofnes depends on the crystal. If the watchmaker installed a generic crystal, it might not seal well enough and you get the water damage you see here. Have a watchmaker open it and inspect the movement and hope it's not too damaged. A replacement dial might be needed as well. It's well beyond a nice patina.
