I have bought this without asking for advice first. Not sure whether it belongs here or in Vintage as it's a 1973 1012 Cal movement. I can't find the case number 1625430 on the Omega database. I like the simplicity of the watch and appreciate it's not a classic. It's 9ct yellow gold with ownership history so I'm pretty sure it's genuine. Sorry about the photos, I must read up on watch photography! Can anyone tell me more about it?
It isnt a Swiss case that's for sure, but we need better pics to have a good look at the hall marks. Looks British to me. British cases, as a lot of US, Argentine and Brazillian cases dont appear in the database and are probably most collectible in their country of origin. Cheers Desmond
I'd bet British too. South American cases don't have nearly as many markings / hallmarks on the inside and 9 ct isn't a US thing - 14 ct is.
Do you need a spanking? Yes, likely a UK case, South American ones were usually 18K and as ULF says US ones 14K. Looks like a nice clean watch.
Put my eyepiece on. The assay mark is Birmingham UK and the date letter is 1978 which fits in with the production run of the 1012 movement. I just wonder out of curiosity if it had a model name. Don't really want a spanking, although when I first started teaching it was permitted. By the time I finished as a Headteacher in 2007 it was well and truly banned; some argue for the better, others for the worse. I paid £500 for the watch - opinions are welcome as to whether this was about right or up/down on value.
