I didn't know about the Sala book, so I started to make this. Maybe someone will find it useful.

hi. love the idea.

another option is to use a framework, like pivorviewer (originally MS, now opensource/JSCRIPT), that allows you to define your data/metadata in excel, then generate a visual representation.

see below for silverlight version- http://www.chaimjaskoll.com/paneraipivot/
and (older) jscript version - http://www.chaimjaskoll.com/paneraipivot/index_html5.html
(note, a newer jscript framework is here - https://github.com/openlink/html5pivotviewer)

let me know if you need help

Update here.. I spent a few hours last night building a basic mean.js website stack for us to use .. for now, I've got basics up on the site, which just means an image gallery of watches per category of UG chrono. I'm going to be talking to peeps on the forum to see if they'll allow usage of their UG pieces with credit of course given. Keeping in mind the site is still in BETA and no where near finished, check it out and let me know if you have feedback. I do not own any of the watch pictures, and credit is due to the original owners.

I'm hoping to talk with the UG nuts/experts here and maybe they can help add valuable information on each reference as well as a reference table or something we can put together.. I want to make this site the "Omega Chuck Maddox" of vintage UG Chrono's where everyone goes for information regarding this subject. If anyone has any info/pictures etc to provide that would be useful or recommendations on anything PLEASE don't hesitate to reply here or PM me. Lets build this together!

This is great initiative. Hope you will get support and expertise from this forum.

If that can help and if you haven't already, you can have a look at Noodia's two-parts review of the Compax family. It is full of very interesting pictures and facts (you can Google translate it).

I've messaged @Noodia on this, and hoping he will respond with the go-ahead on using that content on the site. I think it would be a great addition indeed, to include in the Compax pages.

If there are other sources of UG knowledge, please let me know. Willing to incorporate any and all.. and try to have it all organized and make sense!

Hi #x3no,
Do you know what year catalog this image is from? (from your site)?
I have a Tri-Compax Ref 22279 and I'm trying to authenticate the dial, which is very similar to this.
Thank you

@wjr, I don't know if it will help you, but in the original Dropbox post there's a file that has all the production years by serial number.

The earliest the catalog excerpt can be from is 1948, which is approximately the year the 138ss movement (bottom watch) was introduced.

Hey Guys, Update here!

I've (in my spare time) created functionality that will allow me and maybe others to easily start adding watch references to the reference list that is now created and will be ever-growing, located here: http://universalchrono.com/watch .. I'll be adding references as my time permits, and if anyone wants to know how to contribute and help me input information please PM me. The goal is to input all references for each of their models, and make it as complete and comprehensive as we can.

The new watch reference list will allow us to quickly find references, and information about each watch. The next step of this which I'll be building in my spare time, is the ability to add photo's to each watch reference. This will allow us to search for the watch, then look at accurate photos of the watch, and perhaps down the road show fakes vs originals of that exact model on the same page. Also during this, I'll be trying to integrate some of LouS and Noodia's reviews from other forums that have been fantastic!

This will continue to take time, but I'm passionate about it and am doing my best to make incremental changes so we can continue progress. Lets make this the spot to learn about universal chronographs, since there isn't much of a centralized web presence for it now!

Also, eventually, I'll be updating the sites layout and UI graphics, so that it looks more appealing and more like a "watch" site. Nothing crazy or gaudy, but just some "flair" haha. Anyway, hope you guys like it and can use it in the future to cross-check watch references and learn more about the brand!

Brandon

The reference list is very cool. If I wasn't waist deep in finals right now I'd go re-sort the files I have and see which references I can match with pictures. Hopefully I'll be able to help some more once I'm done with classes.

@CarSnob That'd be awesome!!! Exactly what I'm planning to do next and will need help from everyone in the community.. Basically giving you guys an area to find the reference you have a photo of, and upload it. Then it will display properly on the reference details page. Things will really start coming together once we can piece images together with references!

When you're done finals, please contact me, as I'm hopeful I'll be done with the photo upload portion of the site and can have you upload at will, the images you have, to match with references in the list.. as well as adding new references that aren't there yet. It will be an ever-going process but it'll be worth it to have such a database exist for fellow and future UG collectors.

Update on the site:

I've sifted through and added one of @Noodia 's reviews on the UG Compax. Have a look at it, and let me know if there's any oddities or errors. It was translated via Google Translate, so it may have some weird translations.

Also, still accepting images of references if anyone has time, please email them to me at: bjgreen10@comcast.net !
