I have covered the Omega Speedmaster Professional Apollo XI Moonshine more than once here. That includes a long-term review on the watch after exactly a year of ownership. But never before I did an article on the bracelet alone. Here we are though: Meet the Nixon bracelet review. The bracelet of the Speedmaster Professional Apollo […]

Nice article RJ!
Not in gold but sharing the same design (also my favourite):

Speedmaster Professional ST 145.0022 with 1116 / 575 bracelet
First Omega in Space 311.32.40.30.01.001 with 1098 / 540 bracelet

I'm curious how the bracelet on the new Moonwatch will be.

Smells like a pre-emptive look at the 'new' bracelet that has not been released yet if you ask me 😀

Some of this article definitely reads like foreshadowing, while also keeping up with a certain leak that occurred in recent days:

"A gold (Speedmaster) watch is not for everyone as it isn’t exactly an accessible watch. When my appreciation for the Nixon bracelet started to develop, I also started to hope for a steel version. As you know, the current steel Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with caliber 1861 is about to be phased out and replaced by an updated version. As soon as we get official press information on the new Speedmaster, we will be (among) the first the write about it."

I'm pretty happy in any case, my 1479 is my favourite bracelet of the lot.

I’d have to sell nearly everything to get one sadly. Not prepared to part with my DeepSea or 16710 Pepsi or indeed my 1861 Speedy Hesalite to get there! Part of the fun is the chase and desire though. There’s something pretty special about the gold Speedy. I still wish I’d never sold a NIB Day-Date back in ‘91 but IF I ever go gold again it would be one of these Speedmasters. Meanwhile I’m now a daily wear G-shock fan!

The leaked photo's show the bracelet but not the clasp. Wonder if the clasp will look the same.

But, you can get 18K Seamaster that has a very similar design for less than 10k.

It would be extremely elegant if it did...which imho is what they are achieving with this new bracelet.

I had an original steel 1116. Hateful thing with very tricky links to remove and replace, even my OB gave up on it. Maybe I was unlucky with my example and the new steel version will doubtless be much better made than the original but it wouldn't be my choice for the std Moonwatch. I think the middle section is just too short and makes it look unbalanced. I am curious as to why RJ didn't name check the steel 1116 in the article since that was the inspiration for the sixties gold version and presumably the 2021 steel reboot, but perhaps he wanted to concentrate on the gold side of things.

Hi,

Yes, my focus is mainly on the gold bracelet (and I don't have a 1116). I also refrained a bit to go further back than the 1479 as I feel those bracelets aren't really up to today's standards when it comes down to quality. I appreciate the 1171 and 1450 for example, but it is not something I'd put on a modern Speedmaster tbh. Let's hope the quality of the new Speedmaster bracelet is on par with the gold one of the Moonshine, or the one used on the EW/A11 from last year.

Imagine ... after nearly half a century, someone finally has something positive to say about Nixon 😉😁

The bracelet seems like it would be comfortable but visually that taper seems extreme and while the clasp looks super nice, as noted it also looks very small

love the watch but that’s a lot of cash, even with selling everything I wouldn’t be close

On my toolbox in garage....
I think it would be hilarious to see someone driving around with that sticker on their bumper today 😁

I have a friend who has same sticker on his 69 Continental - which he regularly drives into NYC.
