On my search to a vintage Speedmaster I came up with this one. The seller says that the watch is 68-69 and has a tropical dial and ghost DON. 861 Calibre, 100% original and recently serviced. I’m not a watch lover with the most knowledge available, that is why I ask you guys and girls for a little help. The seller wants €6.000 for it. Is it a good buy, or is that too much for this one? Thank you for your time and help!

Seems high based on dial condition. Lots of missing lume. This watch may look like shit in person.

Also is it me or are the pushers mismatched?

Those are the questions which I cannot answer to be honest. The seller tells me the watch is 100% original. I just cannot be sure about that

If that's an 861, then it is a -68 transitional. Definitely not a -69. Unfortunately the seller seems to only be able to take pictures that look like screen caps from a Blu-ray of a 1970s movie. Really difficult to tell condition, and from what we can see the dial looks thrashed and trashed. The price is in line with a "good" condition Transitional, but I'd be hard pressed to call that fair.

How someone can use pictures like that whilst asking 6k for a watch is absurd.

Thanks for making clear from the info I gave you that this must be a 68 (if seller tells truth). And yes, pictures are horrible but it’s the only I have. I’m afraid I have to let this one go. €6000 is a lot of money

If it’s a 145.022 its a transitional as it has an applied logo and long indices, but you will need to movement pics to varify serial number coincides with the reference.

Walk away ! That dial will look awful when not exposed to direct sunlight. To add insult to injury the bezel fading doesn't look natural to me

Disagree. It looks correct for a ghost.

Is it not too even to be natural?

Jeez, that's one ugly watch...and only €6K

I'd walk away from that one and not turn back either.

Wrong bracelet too - looks like an 1171. This would be a deal at $4K, but at $6k....ehhhh.

Given the way the lume is partly gone, the dry color of the dial and the brown-ness of the writing, i’d say that this looks like a baked dial. And an overcooked dial at that...
