Yep! I am in Miami FL and still waiting to see what will happen here ( if it comes ) is CAT 5 now with wind bursts of up to 200 MPH!
Watching the 11pm news. They are telling us that areas south of Ft. Lauderdale are going to be OK. We have no warnings at this time. Maybe some wind and rain late tomorrow or Tuesday. North of West Palm Beach will be rough, but should be spared the worst of this storm. Here’s hoping that all on the east coast of the US will not get hit. The Northern Bahamas are devastated. I mean whole neighborhoods are underwater. Almost nothing left standing. If you can find a good charity that will help them, please donate. I will. gatorcpa
Good luck to anyone in it's path, I hope everyone's family and friends make it out safely and with limited damage to property.
[QUOTE="gatorcpa, post: If you can find a good charity that will help them, please donate. I will. gatorcpa[/QUOTE] The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has had a presence in the Bahamas for years, and has the infrastructure in place to support disaster relief efforts. I’ve been a part of a number of building teams, in the States and internationally, for the UM church VIM (Volunteers In Mission) have many friends who have been on crisis response UMCOR teams. My suggestion, for anyone seeking organizations who help, is UMCOR (for money) or VIM (for labor) but please do your own research to make sure you’d be happy with them, too. Think I might have to reallocate some watch funds to help out. Prayers for all affected by this storm.
Move to Florida they said. It's paradise they said. Daytona is the safest place in Florida they said. This will be the 3rd hurricane in 4 yrs. $35k in damage from the last one. Sh*t.
one of the many reasons I will avoid Florida as my permanent residency... I'll go and visit and join you guys for a beer at GTGs during the winter
It’s all OK. At close to 22 million people in Florida, we won’t miss you. We’re close to being filled up. Keep coming down in the winter, though. We can use the revenue. gatorcpa
Insurance, sure, but with the demand for contractors it took 7 months to finish. 9 out of 10 in our area needed repairs.
The 1780's Hurricane are still the most powerful and deadly on record, but Dorian is in the same league so far. Not because of its power but because it slowed to a stop for hour after hour and pounded the Bahamas into mush before moving on. Harvey messed up Texas for a similar reason. It just hung there dumping all its rain in a limited area. I have a feeling casualties will be very high.
