Vague request perhaps, but my grandmother recently passed away and I've just been left £500 in her will. I would like to buy something nice with the money to keep and remember her by. What better than a watch.

Anything considered really(but ideally classic and tidy looking as otherwise I'll hear her in my head commenting "whatever do you want that old thing for"), but I am missing a hummer in my collection currently so one of those could be nice. One thing I would say is it really needs to be 35mm plus, and I very much like 70's era watches. Please drop me a message with a pic and if interested we can go from there.

Thank you in advance.

Amended title, have decided it's an electronic /tuning fork watch I'd really like.

Actually bought a lovely IWC from eBay but the seller accepts returns up to 14 days and I'm not sure if I can live with the difficult to replace squarecircle acrylic which has been over polished on one edge causing a strange distortion effect to the lower dial (gives me an OCD twitch). I guess IWC would be the only ones able to replace that and as such would cost a fortune. Think I'll consider that over the weekend and in the meantime keep looking.

Prefer non Bulova as I'm not crazy on their designs but anything else considered. Thank you in advance for any replies.

Rogart has a f300 for sale on page 2 of the watches for sale. Its a great watch, and for what he is asking, it's a steal.

Funny you should point that one out as had just been looking at it on ebay. Trying to remember what Paul charges to repair the date wheels. It's probably gone to the top of the list of contenders anyway.

I don't think they are very expensive. I bet you would still be on budget even after it got fixed. I have almost pulled the trigger on it a few times but went for the cosmic 2000 in the end. I am hoping it has a 1171 bracelet on it.

Last year Paul was charging £85 plus fitting for a metal date wheel so at a guess a minimum of, what £120 fitted? I had one done as part of a service so am not sure what the fitting cost alone would be exactly.

Tet I have a couple of hummers which I may be thinking of moving on, both F300s and both serviced and working well. If you are still looking, I will forward some pics tomorrow.

Yes please Padders.

I should add, I've had a couple of people contacting me with gold plated models, I should have said only really looking for stainless steel. I like solid gold but obviously not expecting that with my budget.

Very much appreciate the replies, nice to have some options, amazingly no cones so far.

Thank you so much to all that for back to me with their lovely hummers, if I had the money I could have a easily gone for an instant collection, I love these watches!

Anyway I have now made a purchase elsewhere and I think I've done very well to get something very suitably special that will be made even better further down the line when I have the funds. This is one to keep. All will be revealed when I receive it but that will be for another thread.

Thank you to OF for the opportunity of posting this thread and again to all that replied. Have a great weekend all.

Enjoy your watch, hopefully it will bring you many happy memories of your grandmother every time you look at it. I am sure she is smiling down on you; happy that she will live on in your memory.

Kind regards stuart
