Dear collectors, A friend and I recently discovered an Omega world time clock; Or at the least, it says Omega in the bottom left corner. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. We looked into it, but all we found was a Derby World Time clock that looked similar to this one. It appears to be from the late 60's early 70's as some of the capital names have changed over the years. It appears to be an old airport clock to me, or could it be something for an Omega stand at a fair? Can anyone tell me more about this world clock? Does anyone have seen this item before? Dimensions: 275x90cm Thank you very much!
I must say, it's a pretty cool item. The clock hung in an old bar, completely covered in brown tarnish from cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, the clock does not work, so it requires some TLC. I'm hoping someone can provide me with more information about this world clock.
My uneducated guess would be, that Omega did not make the World Timer. Which does not take away anything about this very cool piece! The clock does not look like it and the Plaque from the Lincoln Watch Company rings more true. The back of the imbedded clock should give more clues. The Omega plaque looks added .... Again: Great find.
Does the 24 hour listing on the bottom rotate or slide? How about a pic of the back and movement, i presume it runs on 220VAC?
I'm sure we had one of these large world clocks some time ago, maybe over a year, but I can't find it now. Unless of course I was able to see into the future back then?
I've pretty much mastered that looking back in time, thing. Willing to learn your techniques for looking forward in time. Sounds like an awesome pastime on a hot summer day.
I think it is the same as the Derby world clock. Notice that the Lincoln plaque would cover the Derby logo, as would the Omega plaque. And the vertical crosshair in the clock has a gap where the Derby logo would have been. Seems like it was painted over or otherwise removed. Otherwise the clocks seem very similar. I guess someone just didn't like that it was a Derby clock?? https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/w...ay-clock-programmable-lighting/id-f_18739922/
Thank you very much for your nice reactions. Yes, it is entirely possible that the placques were added later. I'll have to check to see if the Derby logo was repainted; I'm not sure. I had previously posted the clock on a different channel but not on the OF. Is there a link to the previous discussion somewhere?
By the way, since you came here for expert opinions, I should clarify that I'm very, VERY, far from an expert. I just did a deep Google dive because I think the clock is extremely cool regardless of who made it. But my opinion above shouldn't be construed as anything more than a guess. When I searched using a Google image search, I didn't find any posts on other forums. Sorry.
I really value your thoughts on this piece. I'll check the mechanism in the coming days as I'm not home due to holidays. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you very much!
