How's this for a box for a Speedmaster MkII from 1972

I have mentioned this watch before. It was bought by an international airline pilot in 1972 and worn until 2011, when he had it sent to Omega for full service/refurbishment.

He did not wear it after that, so when I bought it a couple of years ago it was still in the pristine condition that Omega had restored it to. It is the only restored watch I own, as I normally prefer to buy watches in original condition. But this one spoke to me, and as I admired the superb work Omega did on it, I could not walk away from it.

I like to find original boxes, so spent some time going through our impressive Let's make the ultimate Omega box thread before realising that there were several boxes of the early 70s that Omega ADs could have used.

What appealed most was one that reflected the design elements that characterise the period, and matched the design of the watch.

Yesterday the watch box I found online finally arrived. I put the watch with the box and am delighted.

In case I have it totally wrong, I am very open to comments from more informed box collectors.

Out of curiosity how many watches are there in your collection and do you get boxes for all of them / display them in boxes?

This combo is just stunning

Thanks for the feedback kaplan.

I have only a small collection - 17 vintage watches and 8 modern (ie post 1990), most of which are in their original or period boxes. For me, it is nice to see each watch in the setting it would have been in the showroom - rather like time travelling, as though I was able to choose them new over the counter 60 - 70 years ago.

If I find a watch in as new condition or close to it, sitting in the original box with all the papers, it is like giving myself an extra birthday present.

I know that there are many collectors who are happy to find watches in well used condition - although I have trouble accepting some collectors' enthusiasm for those forms of patina that look more to me like ugly degradation. But hey, if we all collected exactly the same thing, this Forum would be boring.
