Hello all. I own zero Omega watches and I'm drawn to the Seamaster Pro. I'm fine with gently used. If appreciate any tips or advice. On Chrono 24 i see non dated used examples for as low as high$2,000s. I see Speedmaster reduced for $1500. Would ii be disappointed with a reduced as my first entry into Omega?

Thanks all

Are you looking for a Speedmaster or Seamaster? You mention both? Definitely distinctly different beasts.

IMO hold out to find a nice Speedmaster Professional 145.0022 from 80s or 90s. I think you can find a solid example for around 3k.

I have had both Automatic and Manual watches, and now my entire collection is Manual. Something about winding them up that brings me personally a lot of joy. But I am sure many people here feel differently!

Since Dantheman mentioned it. So you have an example to gaze upon. This is my mostly everyday watch in the 145.0022
It is a sexy beast in my estimation.

As someone who bought his first Omega last week - a Speedmaster Pro - I found for me the following:
- Figure out what you want. A reduced may be a good "value" is you much prefer it, and is not a good "value" if you dislike it to some extent and find yourself pining for the Pro. To me anything is a good value if you use it everyday and enjoy it. Conversely, anything is a poor value if you don't use it or don't like it.
- e.g., I saw a good price on a nearly new sapphire Speedmaster, but I didn't want the sapphire. What I wanted - the hesalite - turned out to be only $400 more new.
- New from an AD was the best value. With the right timing I found a 20% discount was achievable.
- I generally didn't see used as a good value, when the regular maintenance equates to about $100/year. (E.g., a 10 year old watch that is $1000 less expensive than new is no value IMO).
- I am in Canada and with FX an import duty, used or new from the US was not a good value.
- I appreciated the service of the AD, who sized the bracelet, and also fixed the bracelet a few days later when I found one link was binding to another link. To me AD, with warranty is the best value.

So in brief, IMO, find what you like, find an AD whom you like and can give you a good discount (at the right time if need be), and buy new.

Yup, that's me! I had a post about manual winging being a joy or annoyance. I bought the Speedmaster Pro because all in all, it was my favourite watch. But if there were an automatic that looked the same, with the same dimensions, at a similar price, I would have bought that one.

Unfortunately I think those days are long gone.
While deals always pop up here and there I think you’re looking at closer to 4000 for a very nice 80s speedmaster.

Used 3570s are trading in the ~2800 range lately.

Oh wow! I haven't looked into the 145.0022 in some time. I guess I am off...

My 145.0022 was $3500. Fairly good price from my research. Next will try to track down a 321 caliber speedmaster

Keep in mind there's no stainless bracelet included in this deal.....so.....
I don’t wear any bracelets other than leather. Does that lower the value a lot?

It's relative; but if you later want to sell the watch to upgrade to a different Speedy, say a transitional, then it helps to have the bracelet--as many have pointed out here on OF. On the other hand, you might make it a point to make an offer that is lower than the asking price on the basis that there's no bracelet....no harm in trying!

suggest setting up an alert on watchrecon - and being patient (easier said than done) - a lot come up for sale and you should get one for around $3k if you wait for one to come up. As always when buying via forums do your research and buy the seller as much as the watch. Not all forums have as robust vetting as here does. And as above pre owned from a member here is good place to start.

Personally Id go for the pro - while I like the reduced Im not sure I like the modular set up of the movement - look at how the pushers and crown align in side profile.

also, unless you are 100% sure you would never wear it on the bracelet avoid being tempted to go for a one on a strap as you may end of spending more if you want to add a bracelet later.
