Hi all, hope you're well.

I recall seeing a breakdown of best practice declaration of value when filling out a customs form, but for the life of me, I can't seem to find it again using the search function.

I have a piece in customs and need to fill out the value of the case, movement, and strap. What is the percentage you assign to each component?

Case = x %
Movement = x %
Strap(s) = x %

I'm thinking it's somewhere around 20% for case, 75% for movement, 5% for straps. Am I way off base? Any guidance from those with more experience would be much appreciated! Thanks all!

I just had a new LE Speedmaster come through US Customs, on the worksheet the seller declared 80% movement, 10% case and 10% steel bracelet. No issues.

Most of the cost is in the movement and that has a set duty that is negligible. The case and strap duty is not very much either. You'll end up also spending money on the broker and service fees. But overall you'll pay a percent or two for a steel watch. Chickenfeed.
