The 50th anniversary of the Omega Speedmaster "Moon watch" is likely going to be released sometime soon. If someone like me doesn't have AD connections and doesn't want to purchase anything from the gray market, how should I go about obtaining this watch (if it's possible)? Do you think I will be able to purchase it from Omega's website, and, if so, is this how you would go about buying it?
Wait until a month or two after deliveries start, and you will see prices decline and can pick up a BNIB from a reseller.
So I should be fine purchasing from an AD or Omega's website? I also said I didn't want to go the gray market route. Does anyone have any predictions on how much it will cost? Finally, when do you think Omega will update the regular version of the Moon watch?
1) you will only be able to buy AD or boutique, not online. I would say. ( only two watches to be sold online ever are the Speedy Tuesday ) 2) similar to Speedy Tuesday prices, I would say. 3) they did about 3 years ago so about 10-15 or so years. I would say. I have a feeling it is going to be a big number LE like about 5-10k as this will be the hottest thing in 50 years. ( These are my thoughts and the next along may differ on the last 2 questions )
With Omega not attending Basel this year does anyone actually know when we will see these and when they might be available?
I think part of the allure of the Moon watch is you can still buy a basic handwound movement with plexi glass and that should always be the case. That said a upgrade to a better bracelet with even a traditional simple micro adjust clasp would be a nice touch.
Hodinkee Speedmaster was sold online also If it’s 5-10k watches then forget it. Besides, people say there will be 3 versions
By Hodinkee not Omega. 3 versions maybe ( everything's rumours ) but likely 20 platinum 100 gold and 5000 SS
Agreed. I wouldn't buy another moonwatch until they upgrade the clasp to the same one my new 300m Diver has.
To keep the vintage vibe going I'd be happy with a new version of this clasp and then there's no need to reinvent the wheel.
Only 200 (or 250 I can’t remember 100%) were sold online by Hodinkee, the rest sold the traditional way through Omega Boutiques.
I'm still intrigued by the number of interests surrounding 50th Anniversary piece. I mean, we don't even know how it'll look like yet
Was reports of 7K on waiting list for ST1, even more for the ST2 With heaps not even worrying about the ST watches because they are hanging out for th 50th. The 50th will be chatted about many a time before we even know hat it looks like. OP is a newbie to the forum asking about it like a few other in a few of the threads. ( Rolex putting people on waiting lists helps )
