How NOT to pack a dial

Recent arrival of parts and I was horrified to see the dial packed like this.
Lume was damaged by the clear lid and you can see the dust from where it has rubbed off. Thankfully it seems to be just the lume. It was a candidate for a relume anyway but being a valuable dial I am quite disappointed in the seller’s efforts. Unfortunately bought through a proxy bid service from Japan so hard to give the seller my feedback…

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Except the dial was NOS. I was devastated.

Ouch! A tragedy for that to happen to a NOS dial

I dislike everything about this thread.

I feel for you both and hope to never see anything like this again.

Sorry that happened. I just bought an old cal 321 Pro dial that was loosely stored and most of the lume is damaged or gone. I paid accordingly. Otherwise it is an excellent dial. I hate when people don't properly package watch items for storage or shipping. Good luck with a relume if you go that route.

How about a nice Rolex box ruined by the pawn brokers price tag?

Should have used duct tape. That scotch tape comes off too easily. ::facepalm1::

So I guess I should use a watch dust blower and dial brush to get rid of the dust. I have a few dial storage containers on their way as well.

Should be tritium. Yeah, thought about that. What’s the half life of tritium?… If the dial is 60+ years old at least it’s not full strength.

I had a seller send a big arrow Seamaster 300 dial in a letter envelope.

PO ran it through a sorting machine which squeezed it out the end of the envelope and gone. I got the envelope in a plastic damaged package.

complained to the seller who said he couldn’t find a padded mailer. Got refunded

It’s a good case for being on the seller’s back for confirming the packing is of a high standard.

After I took the dial out of the padding it was sitting in, under the padding was an 8mm thick piece of foam that I think was actually on the top side of the dial.
Now I am suspecting that either the postal forwarder in Japan or customs/DHL in Australia or inbetween took the dial out for a looksies and didn’t pack it back in the container properly. I can’t prove anytthing but it seems a possibility as the square of foam was useless under the padding.

I recently bought a grey C-Case dial and received a thrash Certina DS dial 🙁

At least you guys got your dials

Joke aside, quite devastating, I get regular nightmares related to dial damage, this is nightmare fuel as well

Sorry @Arancio601

I wonder if you could collect the dust, add some binder and reapply it...
