    Hi folks,

I wanted to get some general opinions on the value effects of a relumed vintage watch.....let’s stick to Speedies for the sake of conversation.

Also, would like to point out that i am strictly using the SM101 pricing chart for reference.

If the relume has been done tastefully, does it really affect value that much? I have seen countless watches for sale that have been relumed and yet still command prices higher than the chart.

So basically I’m asking how much you weigh relumed hands/dial against value as long as it is disclosed?

Depends entirely on how the watch looked prior to the relume.

A good relume on a mouldy dial will add value.

A poor relume on an original dial will remove significant value.

I would be interested to see watches that are relumed and you see selling over sm101 ranges. I'm not saying there are none, I am just curious. Most sellers I see ask a lower price for watches where a relume is stated clearly in their listing (even if they name some special re-lumer, which I always find funny)

... IMO a watch with relumed dial or hands is comparable with a watch with a polished case ...may be it has a better optical look, but it's a big loss of originality...

If you browse the current private sellers listings, I found 3 145.022-69 that are currently FS with relumed dials/hands. Each is head only, and all asking at the “Good” or 2nd price tier.

It could also be that I am misreading the chart, but wouldn’t a head only watch that is not “all original” be priced closer to “running” or the 1st tier?

Likewise, that was my take. I would assume pricing closer to “running” on SM101 chart in this case.

I don’t have one, I’m merely asking in reference to how it affects value.

The $400k 2915 which set the bar as the most expensive on the chart was relumed....

In all honesty, I'm having trouble finding three examples of this in the private sales listings, but maybe I'm just not looking carefully enough. Let's use sales prices - not asking prices. Sometimes watches will sit in that forum for months.

I will see if I can find any actually sold but that’s also why I’m asking if these are respectable prices.

As long as looks untouched even if faded or markers gone, I’d go with original over relume at similar price
